He’s an undeniably talented comedian, as proven on “Saturday Night Live” and in projects like “Big Time Adolescence” and “The King of Staten Island,” but he seems to get more attention for who he’s dating or his personal demons than he does for his comic timing.

For many of them, starring in a franchise film is just another job and a paycheck. Sure, they probably love the work and respect the film, but they’re not checking Film Twitter for rumors and speculation. Case in point—Edie Falco’s experience with “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

While appearing on “The View,” Edie Falco was asked if she was a huge fan of the “Avatar” franchise before signing on to appear in the new sequel, ‘The Way of Water.’ The actress admitted to seeing the first film in theaters years ago, but also shared a slightly embarrassing story about how she’s not obsessed with the box office and release dates in a way most fans are.

However, little does anyone know there already was a pseudo-revival for “The Sopranos” back in 2010, three years after the series halted its run.

As retold by ‘Sopranos’ star Edie Falco in The Athletic’s podcast episode “Shattered: Hope, Heartbreak and The New York Knicks,” the story goes something like this: In 2010, NBA superstar LeBron James’s contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers was ending, and every team in the league was, naturally, vying for his talent.

Unappreciative of his great life, he’s lost his family and now sits in the self-made pile of broken glass that is his lonely existence.

Eight years ago, that statement would seem like a gross over-exaggeration to those outside of Australia, where Mendelsohn has been a star for decades, despite a three-year dry spell in the early-2000s. However, since his astounding turn as the quietly menacing Pope in “Animal Kingdom,” the Australian actor has racked up a superb filmography, catching the attention of international audiences.

The strategy has paid off pretty well for these companies, receiving awards recognition and publicity for their “original” films. However, streaming giant YouTube hasn’t really dived headfirst into this sort of strategy before. Instead, the Google company has only dipped their toes into feature films, primarily focusing on developing “in-house” talent on their YouTube Red premium service.

And following the huge success of “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” it looks like everyone is now digging through infamous court cases from the 1990s to dramatize.
Edie Falco leads the show playing the attorney who defends twin brothers Eric and Lyle Menendez (played by Gus Halper and Miles Gaston Villanueva) when they’re charged with the shocking, brutal murders of their parents.

She was funny, heartbreaking, and just all around great as a stand-up comedian who decides to have an abortion. “Obvious Child” was also the feature film debut of writer/director Gillian Robespierre, who received great acclaim for the film. Now, three years later, the pair have teamed up again for another film.

In “Landline” we meet Dana, played by Slate, and her sister Ali, as they deal with the realization that their dad may have been unfaithful to their mom, and how this news affects every aspect of their family life.

It’s to the credit of the boxing picture “Bleed For This” that it goes nine, ten, or maybe even 11 rounds before it’s clear just which way the final decision is going to go. That’s not a reference to the outcome of the movie’s climactic 1990s match between Miles Teller’s real-life Vinny Paz character and Roberto Duran, but rather the movie’s own bout between its better instincts and the need to wrap up on the most simplistically crowd-pleasing note possible.

You’ll recall when “The Sopranos” was coming to an end, we were rather consumed with tracking the details obsessively (as we’re wont to do with certain topics).

Thankfully, we’ve moved on, but we can’t help but notice this recent interview that creator David Chase gave an interview included in “The Sopranos’: The Complete Book,” published this week, where he goes off on his audience and their disappointment with the Sopranos finale (dude, your audience is Jersey, what did you expect?).
