From the drug-fueled craze of “Trainspotting” to the zombie apocalypse of “28 Days Later” and the tech icon biopic that is “Steve Jobs,” director Danny Boyle has one of the most diverse filmographies in the industry today, which is part of what makes the Academy Award-winning director such an exciting filmmaker. While it can be easy to rest on the laurels of any given genre, Boyle wisely disrupts the status quo with the same “punk rock” sensibilities that proved to be influential growing up in the mid-’70s – an influence the filmmaker infuses into several of the musical numbers in his latest film “Yesterday,” but specifically in his version of “Help!”

In many ways the 60th Grammy Awards were not only lacking in star power, but any sense of history for a major anniversary for music’s most prestigious honor. Perhaps considering the political and social justice tone of the evening the artists commandeered it to be about looking forward and not to the past. That’s a good thing.

Unfortunately, the winners were sadly predictable in may respects.  Too few won too many awards (in this case Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar) and the artist who would have been the most generic pick possible took home the major honors (Mars).

The 60th Grammy Awards were handed out in New York City on Sunday over separate pre-telecast and live broadcast ceremonies.  The biggest winner of the night was Bruno Mars who won Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, R&P Performance, R&B Song, R&B Album and Engineered Album.  Kendrick Lamar took Rap Performance, Rap/Sung Performance, Rap Song, Rap Album aand Music Video .  Ed Sheeran won Pop Performance, Pop Vocal Album and Pop Solo Performance, but did not attend the ceremony.
