‘LaRoy’ Clip: Shane Atkinson Brings An Eccentric Comedy To The 2023 Tribeca Film Festival [Exclusive]

Twenty-one years ago, Robert De Niro co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival with Jane Rosenthal. While its dates sandwich it between more prestigious festivals like Cannes and Venice, film fans can’t sleep on the festival, especially because of its world premieres. And Tribeca is also a major event that helps kick off the summer months in NYC. During the opening night celebration, Martin Scorsese and New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated that De Niro “revitalized the city after 9/11” and that “the Tribeca festival is an indomitable institution and beacon of the city.”

Shane Atkinson is among the 127 filmmakers bringing their art to the festival this year.

It’s a cliché, albeit a tragic one at this point, to suggest that comedy and depression go hand-in-hand. As chronicled by Dick Cavett in connection with CNN’s recent series on “The History Of Comedy,” the late Robin Williams would aim to keep audiences laughing only to walk backstage and say, “Why can’t I be that happy?” The story of the stand-up comic has been documented in many forms, and the song is usually the same in terms of both clinical diagnosis and the hunt to be the next great success story.

Review: ‘Secretariat’ Winds Up Running Right In The Middle Of The Pack

Your appreciation of “Secretariat” may depend on how you react to Diane Lane having a human/animal mind meld with a horse and then later, giving that same horse a pep talk before a big race. If just reading that made you even slightly amused, then you might be best advised to say away from the pure, hay-fed corn that is Disney’s housewife-and-horse-overcoming-the-odds crowdpleaser, “Secretariat.”

To be fair, the studio and director Randall Wallace do put some solid talent in front of the camera to tell the true story of the Triple Crown winning horse who still holds the margin-of-victory record and speed record for dirt races.

During the press tour for “The Taking Of Pelham 1, 2, 3,” producer Todd Black opened up to the NY Post, who brought us that hellacious David Carradine headline, about the next installment in the Wall-Crawler’s saga. While it’s been up in the air in the form of cryptic interview answers from all parties involved, Black confirmed that Kirsten Dunst WILL return for “Spider-Man 4.” There had been some speculation regarding her role in the next film considering she hasn’t been too high on the lack of development regarding her character.

Sam Raimi Says: Don’t Blame Me For ‘Spidey 3’

Pop quiz: who directed “Spider-Man 3”? If you guessed Sam Raimi, a certain “Evil Dead” director would like to clarify just exactly who was the main creative force on the film. Several websites are buzzing about Raimi’s guarded comments in an Empire interview, where he claimed to not be completely in control regarding “Spider-Man 3.” Quoth Empire:

“They really gave me a tremendous amount of control on the first two films, actually. But then there were different opinions on the third film and I didn’t really have creative control, so to speak.”

Raimi was present for all decisions, and after guiding the franchise towards a billion dollar gross with only two films, he should be able to throw some weight around, no?.
