Cannes ’09: The Mid-Way Report Card, Is The Festival Not Really Making The Grade?

The 2009 Cannes Film Festival runs, on paper, from May 13-24, but in reality it, really runs from the 14-23, as that’s when the in-competition screenings begin and end. So today is really the mid-way point of the festival and so far, it’s feeling like a weak crop this year (it’s already Tuesday here, we’re in the future). One of the film’s expected to make a mark at the festival, Lars Von Trier’s “Antichrist,” did make a splash, but it sounds like it polarized everyone into love or hate it experiences.

‘I’m Not There’ Clip: Cate Dylan Goes Electric; Richard Gere Pulls A Billy The Kid & Bale Gets Some Good Ol’ Time Religion

Get this one while you can, YouTube pulls down “I’m Not There” clips faster than you can say, “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again” [ed. it’s already been yanked]

In this Bob Dylan skewed biopic clip, Cate Blanchett/Jude/Dylan and the Band goes electric at the New England Folk Festival and the folk fanatical crowd isn’t’ having it jeering and giving disappointed boos. “Sorry for everything I’ve done and I hope to remedy it soon,” (a line straight from “Eat The Document”) Blanchett’s Dylan composite character says (it sounds like they’re playing “Maggie’s Farm”; we just saw it and can confirm).

“I’m Not There” Clip: “The Storyteller”

A new 1:00 minute clip from Todd Haynes’ Bob Dylan biopic, “I’m Not There” is up on Yahoo. It’s called “The Storyteller” (or click on the image) and feature Dylan/Jude (Cate Blanchett) arguing with the same British journalist (Bruce Greenwood) that was seen in the earlier Cate Blanchett clip with Allen Ginsberg (David Cross) that appeared online back in July (in fact it just looks like a continuation of that scene and aslo features Joe Cobden as the Bob Neuwirth/John Lennon composite).
