In an obviously completely taped ceremony, hosted by Nicole Byer, the first night of the 2020 Creative Arts Emmys kicked off with Netflix and National Geographic tallying the most wins for networks counting trophies. On the nominee side, “Apollo II” and led all individual winners with three trophies each. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “Cheer” weren’t far behind with two wins respectively.

The big news of the night, however, was “Queer Eye” winning the Outstanding Structured Reality Program Emmy for the third straight year.

For those looking for any Emmy Awards trends in the 2020 BAFTA Television Awards, there were decidedly few. Thanks to a different qualification calendar, the HBO mini-series “Chernobyl” and Amazon Prime and BBC’s “Fleabag” dominated the proceedings. Oh, “The Crown,” which is once again major Emmy player this year, also snagged some jewels, but wasn’t that expected?

“Chernobyl” led all programs with 14 nominations with “Fleabag” and “The Crown” earning seven nods each.

Another year has come and gone, and with it, another 12 months of quality cinema. And while the internet is flooded with critics and writers sharing their top 10s and Best Of’s, I wanted to use my platform a little differently. Instead of talking about the same things everyone else is saying (yes, “Parasite” is fucking great, and of course, I loved “Uncut Gems” and “Marriage Story” like the rest of you), I wanted to take this time to highlight some 2019 releases that I feel landed under the radar for most people.
