But fans of the original series should have tempered expectations. This isn’t “The Office” you have grown to love over the years. This isn’t about Dunder Mifflin, Jim and Pam, Dwight’s antics, or even Stanley’s crosswords. This is a new ‘Office.’

(The director of all five episodes here is David Mandel, showrunner on that massive critical darling.) And as the country once again goes through considerations of impeachment and general malfeasance in the highest offices of the United States, the timing seems just right for a scathing look at one of the key points in our continuing disillusionment with the government.

A serial killer named Sam Fortner (Domhnall Gleeson) decides that he needs more intense therapy than he’s been getting from his regular visits to Dr. Alan Strauss (Steve Carell), and so he kidnaps the shrink and chains him to the floor in his basement. Can Alan keep Sam from committing murders while also protecting his own safety?

Inevitably, this makes you wonder, “Didn’t that film already get released?” That’s the case with “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway,” a film that I swear was already in theaters but apparently isn’t actually getting released until June.

He/she/they is perhaps only just one text message away and perhaps just one step away from daring you to jump off the cliff of normalcy into blissful self-destruction. So the longing romantic fantasy of what if?, underscored by the underpinnings of life’s routines and inherent romantic dissatisfactions, is explored with scintillating, flirty, flinty pleasure in HBO’s romantic comedy cum thriller mini-series, “Run.” From creator Vicky Jones, a frequent collaborator of “Fleabag” creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, also an executive producer and guest star in the series, and starring Merritt Wever (“Unbelievable,” “Godless”) and Domhnall Gleeson (“Ex Machina,” “Rise Of Skywalker”), ”Run” has all the trappings of a terrifically entertaining series about secret romantic pacts, unfulfilled desire, star crossed destinies, and perhaps the manic thrill of blowing up your life all in the name of a sensual romp between two people with electric chemistry.

Y’know, something along the lines of, “If we’re not married by 35, we’ll marry each other.” In the new series, “Run,” that idea of a relationship pact is taken to the next level.

As seen in the first full trailer for “Run,” the HBO series follows the story of a woman that finds herself at a crossroads in her life, where she’s unhappy with the direction she’s going in but unable to do anything about it.

For this series, however, a text-based twist gives her the push to somehow move. Of course, it just happens to be a guy from her past behind the message.

A bare bones description of the film – a doctor discovers strange occurrences at an English estate in the 1940s – makes it sound like high-brow horror, but the filmmaker has far more on his mind than simple scares. Adapted from Sarah Waters‘ novel, “The Little Stranger” instead explores tension created not only by the supernatural, but also by the changing balance of power in postwar Britain.

Even Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski knows what’s up and described Abrahamson as “a filmmaker who has proven to redefine every genre he takes on.”

His first film, “Adam & Paul,” was a buddy comedy about drug addicts, then his 2014 breakout film “Frank” was about an enigmatic musician who constantly wears a paper-mâché mask over his head, and he followed that with the Oscar-winning kidnapping drama “Room.

No, they didn’t care about Luke (the rest of fandom had that covered).

The home video trailer has landed for ‘The Last Jedi,’ and in addition to showing off all kinds of spoilery footage that the initial promos avoided, it confirms some of the extras fans will be getting.

Next year, they’re doing with the same with another lengthily titled flick: “A Futile And Stupid Gesture.” And it’s packing a powerhouse of talent.

Directed by David Wain (“Wet Hot American Summer,” “Role Models“) and starring Will Forte, Martin Mull, Domhnall Gleeson, Matt Walsh, Joel McHale, and Emmy Rossum, the film dives into the early days of National Lampoon, the comedy magazine, that soon became a massive Hollywood brand.

Ever since Martin Scorsese‘s influential mobster epic first came onto the scene in 1990, many directors and producers have tried to replicate that iconic film’s free-wheeling, high-rolling style. Whether it’s “Lord Of War,” “American Hustle,” or “War Dogs,” to name a mere few, Hollywood isn’t shy about trying to recreate that smooth criminal classic’s singular success.

And then there are movies like “Crash Pad,” which somehow get made without any problems, even though they feel like a low-grade rehash of about a half dozen movies you’ve seen before. Oh wait, maybe that’s exactly why they get made.

Based on a true story, the film follows an ordinary pilot who is recruited by the CIA to run one of their covert operations, and of course, nothing goes as smooth as it should.
