Despite his already epic, nearly eight-hour docuseries, “The Beatles: Get Back,” getting released in 2021 (read our review), filmmaker Peter Jackson’s obsession with the Beatles is not quite over. The filmmaker has restored “Let It Be,” director Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s original 1970 film about The Beatles, and Disney+ will release the movie on May 8, 2024, the first time the film has been readily available in 50 years.

Say what you will about singer/songwriter Taylor Swift, from the music industry, to the NFL and even the movie box office, wherever she appears, she seems to lift the financial sails of that industry. Obviously already a juggernaut in the music industry, Swift made major headlines last fall when she released “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” concert doc and made a deal directly with AMC to release the film theatrically, bypassing distribution with all the movie studios—a canny move though one that upset many in the industry.

While “Deadpool 3” might challenge this notion somewhat—especially depending on its-cameos—when franchises change owners or deals end (see Disney buying Fox), often the past is thrown out, and new creators are tasked with starting over. We’re seeing that now with James Gunn’s DC Studios (that will forgo the previous DCEU), we’re seeing it mostly with all the 20th Century Fox Marvel properties that Marvel Studios/Disney will take in a totally new direction (“The Fantastic Four,” “The X-Men”).

As you likely know by now, season two of “Loki” ended last week, and the ramifications of the series have echoed on. And Tom Hiddleston finally did the press rounds now that the strikes are over, talking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast and Entertainment Weekly, among others.

What are those consequences? Well, Spoiler ahead for those that haven’t seen “Loki,” go it?

While yes, season two was full of that complicated “timey wimey” stuff that confounded and made some of the series hard to follow, what you really learn is that in the end, Loki made a great sacrifice, basically taking responsibility for the multiverse problems he helped as a variant in the series, and banishing himself in exile at the end of time, seemingly forever, holding the multiverse together as his final sentence.

Last night, Disney and Lucasfilm unveiled the latest trailer for “The Mandalorian” Season 3. Though many people just were excited to see the new footage from the upcoming batch of episodes, the studio went further and announced the list of directors who worked on the season. Much like previous seasons, the names include some familiar faces but some exciting new additions, as well.

While it had been rumored and reported for months before, it wasn’t until this year’s D23 that we actually got confirmation that Marvel Studios was going to release a Halloween special on Disney+ titled “Werewolf By Night.” But when the studio finally released a teaser, not only did fans realize that Marvel Studios isn’t just dipping its toes into horror, “Werewolf By Night” is leaping headfirst into the deep end, embracing the old-school Universal Monsters-era of the genre.

It only takes watching the first teaser for “Andor” to know that the latest “Star Wars” series is very, very different than the other Disney+ releases from the galaxy far, far away. It appears the series is aimed at a much older, more mature audience than shows like “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” And the best way to explain the stark contrast between “Andor” and everything “Star Wars”-related that preceded it is to note that Tony Gilroy is the mastermind behind the scenes. 

And in a new interview with Variety, Tony Gilroy explained the initial idea for “Andor” that he was shown by Disney and why that idea wasn’t going to work for him, which led the filmmaker to pitch a much more “radical” idea to the Lucasfilm executives.

We’ve seen it happen with “The Lion King,” “Cinderella,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” and more over the past several years, and next up is “Pinocchio.”
