Last week “The Mandalorian” actress was fired from the Lucasfilm TV series after some controversial social media remarks which many found anti-Semitic (she compared the persecution of the Jews by the Nazis as not much different for hating right-wingers for their conservative values, which is an appalling false equivalency and bankrupt victimization). UTA, her agency, dropped her shortly thereafter as well.

The flattened, reductive version from people like the Daily Wire, who subsequently picked her up for a movie deal, was that she was a victim of cancel culture and fired for her political views.

Though he is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise, Mark Hamill has had a very prolific voice acting career over the years, appearing in many beloved cartoons from “Batman: The Animated Series,” to “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” This is to say, we shouldn’t really be that surprised to know that Hamill managed to sneak in a voice acting cameo in season 1 of “The Mandalorian.”

The cameo was revealed during the 8-part behind-the-scenes documentary series “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian” which is a terrible title for a pretty good documentary.

Disney+ is a big hit, and seems like a no-brainer and institution now, but perhaps it seemed more of a risk back in the fall of 2019, before it launched. It probably didn’t matter either way, but then its hope seemed pin to its flagship show, “The Mandalorian,” a new “Star Wars” spin-off set after the events of “Return Of The Jedi,” and somewhat unlike anything we’ve seen in the “Star War” universe (though it’s aesthetic grittiness was seen in “Rogue One“).
