Ok, you’ve already read our review, read how director Casey Affleck has admitted, more or less, that some elements of the film are fictional, and probably heard a ton of buzz from the new documentary, “I’m Still Here” about the lost bizarro-bearded years of actor Joaquin Phoenix. Well, here’s a larger taste in one of the scenes where Phoenix finally tracks down hip-hop mogul Diddy in hopes of landing him as the producer of his new album.

Review: ‘I’m Still Here’ Doc About Joaquin Phoenix’s Lost Years Is An Entertaining, If Potentially Dubious, Hot Mess

“Love me or hate me, just don’t misunderstand me,” our protagonist pleads in the opening prologue of this picture.

Unless you’ve been living under a self-imposed media blackout or a cultural rock, here it is: In the months somewhere in between 2008 and 2009, actor Joaquin Phoenix announced he was quitting acting for good, embarking on a hip-hop career. During the period the actor, sorry, rapper, basically gave up on hygiene, grew a massive Unabomber-like beard, gained a sizable amount of weight, and several media pundits and the public began to call into question the authenticity of his his new career choice, imagining it to be a type of post-modern art prank: see how low you can go, see just how deeply you can torpedo your career.

A hoax or the real deal? This has been the thought on everyone’s mind regarding Casey Affleck’s documentary about his brother-in-law, Joaquin Phoenix.

Titled, “I’m Still Here: The Lost Years Of Joaquin Phoenix,” the film hits in limited release this Friday, September 10 (read our just published review) and a recent WENN interview with Affleck seems to suggest that the director has admitted that elements of the film have been fabricated (our review definitely seems to think at least some of it is staged or fraudulent, but not all of it).

Weekend Box Office: ‘Shrek’ Wins Very Busy March Weekend In June

Who was anyone kidding? This allegedly summer weekend looked no different than your average March free-for-all. A three-week old kiddie picture vs. a second-tier Judd Apatow offering, an Ashton Kutcher Lionsgate movie, a fifth-rate talking animal picture and a culty horror curiosity. Forecasting any of these movies doing $20 million+ was being, hmm, adventurous, though you couldn’t blame prognosticators, who assumed that the hot weather and lack of school should equal arbitrary big numbers for someone.

‘Get Him To The Greek’ Unexpectedly Dark, Entertaining, But Very Uneven

Is Nicholas Stoller now the middlebrow answer to our cinematic sexual concerns? The relatively restrained sexuality of modern American film has led to the marginalization of our voices of indie sexuality, and so the hangover from the early aughts’ gross-out fascination has pushed sex back into the “icky” realm for mainstream cinemagoers. Which is why it was a surprise to see Stoller’s “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” end with one of the most awkward, ugly sexual encounters in recent memory, a moment that felt honest and hurtful that stood out amongst the film’s mostly untethered sitcom-character observations.

Here’s a first listen of Rose Byrne’s pop-princess character Jackie Q’s single “Supertight” featuring Russell Brand’s Aldous Snow in Nicholas Stoller’s upcoming “Get Him To The Greek.”

Obviously a play on the slate of sexualized but “religious-minded” pop-artists, Jackie Q is described as an artist “who has released a sexy streak of hits that rival the early work of her musical influences, Madonna and Freddie Mercury. The former model-turned pop star’s bold combination of house beats, high couture and raw sexuality paved the way for a new wave of multimedia artists like Lady Gaga, who cites Jackie as her biggest inspiration.”

Music in the film is, of course, written by the likes of Jarvis Cocker, Carl Barat (of The Libertines) and Jason Segel, as well as “Walk Hard” songwriters Dan Bern and Mike Viola.

Ever since his breakdown on David Letterman, the legitimacy of Joaquin Phoenix’s reported career change as a rapper last year has been up in the air. Hip hop mogul Diddy has now thrown his own two cents in revealing that he actually produced and mixed a record with Phoenix.

“Joaquin’s for real,” he told MTV News. “Joaquin’s for real. If he’s not for real, he tricked me.

‘Get Him To The Greek’ Gets A Lengthy, Uneven Red Band Trailer

With Aziz Ansari confirmed to be hosting the MTV Movie Awards this summer, and Jonah Hill calling Diddy the “McLovin'” of “Get Him To The Greek,” expectations are running high on the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” spinoff.

The latest, and quite long red-band trailer has landed and doesn’t really improve our opinion from when we saw the first trailer back in February. The laughs are spotty (though when they do land, they’re quite big) but the film feels like its giving a lot of energy towards very little result.

The L.A. Times spoke to Columbia chief Doug Belgrad a few months ago and confirmed Judd Apatow is not producing the planned “Ghostbusters III,” film. Still, uninformed media reports persist.

It’s probably not the first time it’s come directly from his mouth, but the first time we’ve seen it. Apatow, who spoke to Vulture, re-confirmed (for those not paying attention) that he’s not producing the picture. So, where did those rumors come from?

By now you might have seen this Hollywood Reporter piece about the fact that Casey Affleck is planning on directing a documentary on the “music career” of his buddy Joaquin Phoenix, now that he’s quit acting.

*Cough,* yeah. But it gets waaay worse. And perhaps THR is playing some sick joke on all of us.

It’s apparently not a documentary about Phoenix’s rock band The Lady Is a Tramp, which featured Antony Langdon, ex-Spacehog singer, on lead vocals (it appears they broke up and Langdon is now in a band called Arckid).

Our boy Diddy once warned Derek Luke that he, paraphrasing, “better get shit right” when acting and portraying the Bad Boy rap superstar and mogul in the Biggie Smalls rap biopic, “Notorious.”

Well, Luke must have done something right. Diddy has seen the film and loved it.

“Notorious” producer Wayne Barrows, the former manager of the Notorious B.I.G. (aka Christopher Wallace) has a blog for updates on the hip-hop biopic. They’ve posted another video diary of the film which isn’t exactly exciting, but it’s something. And they let you know they shot in on location in New York and Brooklyn! How about that? [Congratulations?] Is it just us or does Jamal Woolard/Gravy look a little too thin to be playing Biggie? Someone’s gotta feed that kid some extra burgers.

Is that Didd’s at a white party? The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has a shot of actor Derek Luke in his crispy whites as Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs in the Notorious B.I.G. biopic, “Notorious” as found over at /Film.

Sitting throne next to him is Jamal Woolard (the rapper Gravy) as the Biggie himself (Christopher Wallace; who we’ve already seen shots of).

For all those on the planet who worries about the quality of this biopic (everyone), keep in mind at least that Luke has done some superb work.

(born Christopher Wallace) are doing eerie and spot-on impressions of the real-life people they’re portraying.

“Gravy, the guy playing B.I.G., it was just too eerie for me to be on that,” Combs told MTV. “Gravy’s killing it. If I tell you he’s killing it, then that’s all we need to say, you know what I’m saying?

Sean Combs’ continuing search to find an assistant stupid enough to work under his tyrannical ways is getting desperate.

This morning before 8 a.m. in Times Square, an underpaid intern was shilling on the streets of New York trying to entice tourists who have no clue what he’s talking about to become Diddy’s next poor sap, sorry, assistant.

The sign read, “Vote 4 Diddy’s assistant. Disturb the Industry. I invented the ‘Remix.’ ” So wait, oh, he’s actually trying you to get to vote on his many assistant applications, right?
