In the DCEU, “Wonder Woman” charmed critics, and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” rallied the fans. However, it was “Aquaman” that won big at the box office. James Wan‘s 2018 film is the highest-grossing DCEU film to date, bringing in over $1 billion worldwide. Say what you want about the movie’s tone and bloated runtime, but a payout like that means a lot more Aquaman is inevitable.

Naomi McDuffie is learning about her own heroism in the series “Naomi.” Ava DuVernay leads the project, another DC property under her ARRAY Filmworks banner.  The multi-hyphenate partners with Jill Blankenship to create the series. Blankenship comes to the project with writing as well as executive producing credits on both “Arrow” and “The Last Ship.” The first episode also sees “Echo Park” director Amanda Marsalis helm.

After a brief career interlude, James Gunn is once again a busy man. In between stints directing this year’s “The Suicide Squad” and the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” the popular auteur developed a spinoff series designed around the character of Peacemaker “mostly for fun.” Before long, the series was greenlit by HBO Max with Gunn set to direct five of eight episodes. 

That project has now finally come to fruition.

Designed as a virtual convention, the event allows for the studio to unveil first looks and teasers for its slate of upcoming content. And 2021’s FanDome doesn’t appear like it will disappoint at all.

Zachary Levi and the cast of “Shazam!” are apparently sworn to secrecy on the new script for their upcoming movie. And their new castmembers. And pretty much everything that the DC FanDome audience would like to know about the new movie. So if you were looking for significant updates on “Shazam! 2,” this might not have been the panel for you.

While Jason Momoa was curiously absent from the “Aquaman” panel, given it’s all pre-recorded and can be done from one’s home, director James Wan was in attendance at DC FanDome to rep his underwater DC superhero. During the panel, which also included “Aquaman” costar Patrick Wilson, Wan teased a few minor details for the forthcoming sequel that is set to arrive in 2022.
