There’s commitment to the bit, and then there’s David and Nathan Zellner. The brothers’ latest film “Sasquatch Sunset,” billed to Sundance audiences as only “a year in the life of a singular family,” makes good on the filmmaking duo’s long desire to make a film about the legend of Bigfoot. That logline deliberately undersells exactly what they made: a 90-minute, dialogue-free film that follows a family of sasquatches in the forest.

Welp, it looks like we need to update our Most Anticipated 2024 List. And maybe this is a big tease for tomorrow’s Sundance 2024 line-up? Because, today, Bleecker Street Studios announced a film we weren’t sure was shot or ready, but it surely is. Titled “Sasquatch Sunset,” it is the new film from directing duo David and Nathan Zellner, known for helming “Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter,” “Damsel,” and most recently, episodes of Showtime’s excellent series “The Curse” from Nathan Fielder, Emma Stone, and Benny Safdie.

Following their relative critical success with “Damsel,” the screenwriting-directing duo of brothers David and Nathan Zellner have set their sights on a new project with a cast full of familiar names. The Zellners will be directing and producing “Alpha Gang” after David Zellner wrote the script for the upcoming sci-fi comedy, slated to begin filming in 2021.

The Western genre has always been very male-dominated. However, the title of the upcoming film “Damsel” suggests that it might put a new twist on the genre. Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson play 18th-century lovers with Wasikowska playing the supposed damsel in question. According to a review from our site, “Damsel” attempts to subvert the cliched “damsel in distress” archetype. The story depicts Samuel (Pattinson) pursuing his beloved Penelope (Wasikowska) because he suspects that she has been kidnapped.

PARK CITY – Four years ago David Zellner and Nathan Zellner (aka The Zellner Brothers) unveiled “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter” at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The imaginative drama earned strong reviews and two Independent Spirit Award nominations 10 months later including a Best Director recognition for David. Now, the siblings have returned to Sundance with a new creation, “Damsel,” that despite the efforts of Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska will be hard pressed to earn the same reception.

James Gray’s “The Lost City Of Z” opens up in the U.K. this weekend, and the cast has been doing the press rounds overseas. The epic Amazonian jungle movie stars Charlie Hunnam, Sienna Miller and Robert Pattison, and the latter was on the recent Kermode and Mayo podcast and revealed some intriguing nuggets about some of his future projects.

Pattison stressed his post-“Twilight” direction of working with auteurs (David Cronenberg, David Michod, Anton Corbijn, Werner Herzog) to the podcast hosts.
