Decades ago, there were examples like “Tales From the Crypt,” “Trilogy of Terror,” and of course, “Creepshow.” However, in recent years, the most recognizable horror anthology franchise is none other than “V/H/S.” And just in time for Halloween, Shudder has a new one coming, titled “V/H/S/85.”

As seen in the trailer for “V/H/S/85,” the film continues the found-footage gimmick of previous films but this time places the time period in the mid-‘80s.

But step into the 1990s with “Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth,” and the franchise starts walking on air like Wile E.

And for anyone who’s not a diehard fan of Clive Barker‘s Cenobites, the response to this news is, “why bother?” Despite ten films, the “Hellraiser” franchise has never been known for its quality. Its stories of puzzle boxes and pain-obsessed, interdimensional entities are also an acquired taste, even among diehard horror fans.

And in that year, apparently, the film has already been produced and is in the middle of post-production, with an eventual Hulu release in the cards. And with filming over, Hulu and Spyglass Media Group are ready to announce the full cast of the new horror reboot and welcome franchise creator, Clive Barker, into the fold, as well.

In this eerie Sundance picture starring Rebecca Hall (upcoming “Passing,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” “The Town“), Sarah Goldberg (“Barry”), Evan Jonigkeit (“X-Men: Days of Future Past“), Stacy Martin (“Nymphomaniac“) and Vondie Curtis Hall (“Die Hard 2“), a widow (Hall) begins to uncover her recently deceased husband’s disturbing secrets.

And or, Searchlight Pictures has just been biding their time, waiting for the right moment to release and market the film.

Rarely does a modern reboot of a classic franchise actually work. Most recently, you can probably point to 2018’s “Halloween” as the best possible outcome. But yet, franchises are what drive ticket sales and Spyglass Entertainment is ready to see if there’s life left in the “Hellraiser” franchise.

But while it often frightens the bejaysus out of you, Bruckner’s sophomore feature, after 2017’s “The Ritual,” doesn’t rely on schlock tactics.

Against this background, there’s a simple prevailing rule: don’t enter the woods — especially at night.
