In the feature debut of director Jonah Feingold, “Dating & New York,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, the filmmaker makes his attempt at the romantic comedy by way of modern dating practices such as the reliance on apps and how technology has informed and devalued human connection. It’s an ambitious and, at times, messy feature that attempts to both deconstruct and honor the genre he clearly loves.

Friends with benefits is not a new concept (hell, there’s a movie with that exact title), but friends with benefits in the millennial age? Maybe that’s a slightly different view of the phenomenon, especially as millennials and gen Z are said to move fluidly between partners, much more so than Gen X and above. Directed by Jonah Feingold and having premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival, “Dating & New York” stars up and comers Francesca Reale, Jaboukie Young-White and Jerry Ferrara.
