Josh Hutcherson & Dane Cook To Star In The Horror Comedy ‘Detention’

Certainly Josh Hutcherson must be bummed after not getting chosen to play Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s forthcoming “Spider-Man” reboot (his audition tape leaked online) but certainly he could be doing something better than rolling with Dane Cook.

Hutcherson is set to co-star with everybody’s favorite frat comic in the upcoming horror-comedy “Detention.” The tired concept “centers on teens who must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life.” Sigh.

Chris Kattan & Helena Mattsson Join ‘Guns, Girls and Gambling’ With Christian Slater, Gary Oldman & Dane Cook

Listen, we know this movie is probably going to be terrible, but with a cast this bonkers there’s really no way we can’t watch it.

We were already kind of blown away when it was announced that Christian Slater, Gary Oldman and Dane Cook were actually all going to be in “Guns, Girls and Gambling” together. But as if things couldn’t get any more bizarre, along comes former “Saturday Night Live” alum Chris Kattan and Helena Mattsson (ok, she’s not as bizarre and yeah, we had to look her up too; she was in “Surrogates” and “Iron Man 2”) to round out the cast.

Ok, this is the weirdest bit of casting news in a while. Christian Slater, Gary Oldman and Dane Cook are all set to star in “Girls, Guns & Gambling,” a crime thriller from indie writer/director Michael Winnick. And if you think the cast is weird, just wait until you hear the plot.

The film mixes up “Elvis impersonators, Indians, modern cowboys, a 6-foot-tall blond assassin, a frat boy, a corrupt sheriff and a prostitute into a chase for a priceless American Indian artifact stolen during a poker game at an Indian casino.” But wait, there’s more.

John Krasinski Is A Virtual Lock For ‘Captain America’ (Sorry Dane Cook)?

Fox411 is reporting that the loveable, sarcastic goof from “The Office,” John Krasinski, is the studio favorite to take on the lead role in the forthcoming big screen version of “Captain America.” Color us surprised and somewhat dismayed.

According to the site’s sources, Krasinski has read four times and screen tested twice and remains the favorite among “key decision makers.” He is also apparently already reading opposite potential female leads, which if true, means that the actor is definitely being eyed as leading candidate.

Samuel Mutha Fuckin’ Jackson Breaks Into U.S. Box Office

It was a winning weekend at the box office for Neil Labute’s racially tense thriller, “Lakeview Terrace.” The film starring Samuel L. Jackson made $15.6 million. The film and its success might signal the deathknell of LaBute’s creative career, but perhaps the beginning of a commercial one? Either way, it has to be seen as some sort of comeback after the remake of 2006’s “The Wicker Man,” which was universally laughed at from audiences and critics alike (a film so excruciatingly bad, it’s earned itself an ironist cult following).

Weekend Box-Office: A Fresh Batch Of Not Very Much Coming Right At You!

A gaggle of films are going to be released this weekend in the U.S. Among the flock, four are being released wide. The four are: the Samuel L. Jackson feuding neighbor film, “Lakeview Terrace,” the formulaic Dane Cook rom-com, “My Best Friend’s Girl,” (Seriously, who keeps hiring this guy?) the slightly more intelligent rom-com with the unwatchable Ricky Gervais, “Ghost Town,” and the shoddily animated film starring John Cusack, “Igor.” ‘Terrace’ will probably take the crown, because of it’s safe PG-13 rating with ‘Girl’ coming in a slightly distant second.

Christmas In March For The Flaming Lips?

The Flaming Lips xmas movie, “Christmas on Mars,” is pretty much the music films equivalent of Chinese Democracy.

The film has been in the works since at least 2002, filming was allegedly completed in 2005 and for several years now Wayne Coyne would tell anyone who would listen: “it’s coming, it’s coming!”

Last year Coyne told everyone that it was coming out Xmas 2007, but apparently the Oklahoma weirdos have missed their yuletide window once more.
