One of the things Pixar does better than anyone, or all animated houses anyhow, is tapping into that feeling of youthful nostalgia and making it universal. What Pixar excel at, seemingly, is mix wistful coming of age stories about childhood or growing up and mix it with a fantasy element. And they’ve done that very thing for “Luca,” a new Disney/Pixar movie set on the Italian Riveria that mixes boyhood friendship with a tale of a seaside monster.

More than any other franchise, you could make an argument that the gatekeepers that control the James Bond films have the most singular vision about what works and doesn’t in their series.
