Update: 5:44 pm EST: Reuters’ report says he was “found naked and hanging dead from a rope,” so that at least suggests an apparent suicide.

In an interview with the AP, actor Michael Madsen, who worked with him on “Kill Bill 2” said, “It is shocking to me that he is no longer with us. I have so many great memories of David that I wouldn’t even know where to begin. He has a very special place in my heart.”

Update 2:43 pm EST: his manager told the London Times it was an “accidental death,” does that sounds like what we think it sounds like?

The failure of “Crank: High Voltage” and being booted off “Jonah Hex” aren’t getting to writers/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor just yet, as they’ve just now given us a sneak-peek of their new film “Gamer.” Well, technically that’s not true- “Gamer” began principal photography even before the second “Crank” installment, and since then has been delayed by multiple release dates and reshoots. Americans now get our first look at the action thriller which was originally titled “Game” and rumored to be known as “Citizen Game.”

Gerard Butler stars in “Gamer” as Kable, a death row prisoner participating in a massive online game where users control prisoners as avatars through mind control and send them into battle against each other.

A week after the boffo “Hannah Montana: The Movie” bow, Disney spawn Zac Efron courted the same audience and won with the insipid body-jumping comedy “17 Again.” The laffer, from formerly respectable “Igby Goes Down” director Burt Steers brought in $24.1 million, outdistancing its closest competitor, the much older-skewing “State of Play.” For comparison’s sake “17 Again”‘s $24 million pales in comparison to “Montana”‘s $34 million take and doesn’t approach “High School Musical 3″‘s $42 million take, but hey, it’s the biggest opening of Matthew Perry’s career, topping the $13.7 million bow of “The Whole Nine Yards.” Hey Matt, send Zefron a fruit basket or something.

Back to the weekend box office! As usual, there’s seemingly not much to get excited about in wide release this weekend, but there is one political thriller with Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck that surprisingly really outdid all expectations.

Even limited release films are a little quiet this weekend. If you live in a larger city, your best bet is without question the aforementioned “State Of Play.” It’s not perfect, but it’s sadly representing something we hardly ever see anymore: the smart Hollywood film.

As previously reported, the soundtrack to “Crank: High Voltage” has been composed by ex-Faith No More/Mr. Bungle singer/musician Mike Patton and it’s the first front-to-back feature score the rocker has ever made.

The soundtrack will be available both physically and digitally on April 7 on Lakeshore Records. The film, again starring Jason Statham, enters theaters on April 17. The soundtrack features 32 original compositions written by Patton, many with eclectic-flavored hip-hop and rock bent he’s been so fond of over the years, but also with a sleek funk vibe as well.
