Costume designer Trish Summerville has collaborated with David Fincher on films such as “Gone Girl” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and with other filmmakers on large fantasy films including “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “The Dark Tower.” None of that prepared her for tackling Fincher’s passion project, however. “Mank” not only found her designing clothing from Hollywood’s golden era, but translating those costumes specifically for a black and white digital canvas.

If there is one industry union that has taste, style, and, yes, a sense of humor, it’s the Costume Designers Guild. For example, with this year’s 2021 Costume Design Guild Awards they nominated such worth films as “Promising Young Woman,” “Birds of Prey,” “Emma” and “Judas and the Black Messiah.” Oh, and how could we forget, the indomitable “Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar.”

In something of a surprise, “The Masked Singer” cracked the Competition Series field for the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards. Despite massive ratings for this era of broadcast television, the FOX network series wasn’t necessarily a favorite of the critics or industry. If it somehow manages to steal the Emmy from two-time winner “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” the producers will need to find a way to get costume designer Marina Toybina a statue.

You may not recognize Paco Delgado‘s name, but the two-time Oscar nominee has created costumes for films such as “The Danish Girl,” “Les Miserables,” “The Skin I Live In” and “Biutiful.”  Now, his designs are on display in Ava Duvernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time” where the looks for the cosmically powerful Mrs. characters are showcases for his talent.  And that means some of the most drag-licious costumes for stars Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and none other than Oprah Winfrey.
