‘Yellowjackets’ & ‘Loki’ Land WGA Awards TV Noms

The Writers Guild of America announced the television nominees for the 2022 WGA Awards and while the key categories were filled with a number of familiar programs, an impressive slate of new series made the cut. Both “Yellowjackets,” “Loki,” “Hacks” and “Only Murders in the Building” earned respective Drama Series or Comedy Series nods as well as a New Series nomination. “Reservation Dogs” joined those four as the fifth nominee in the latter category.

We sort of feel for Lionsgate (ok, not really) because “Conan” has been plagued with an increasingly hilarious series of early looks that paint nothing but a terrible picture for the forthcoming Marcus Nispel’s film.

Now more have arrived and after endless pictures of Jason Momoa’s pecs and hair, which have driven the girls wild we’re sure, the guys have something to look forward to, as it appears there will be some actual females with actual breasts in the movie.

We’ll be honest, we don’t have much faith or interest in the upcoming “Conan” remake. It’s being produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes which has given us junk like the recent “Nightmare on Elm Street” reboot and it’s directed by Marcus Nispel who delivered two other Dunes remake duds, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th” (the company is all about re-dos obviously, trying to capitalize on old franchises no one seemingly wants anymore).

Ever since the casting of “Stargate: Atlantis” star Jason Momoa (if star is the appropriate word for someone so close to being a God amongst us mere mortals) in Lionsgate’s reboot of “Conan,” possibly our most anticipated movie since Richard Fleischer’s 1984 game-changer “Conan the Destroyer,” only one question has haunted the playgrounds and water coolers of the country; what will Momoa look like when he plays Robert E. Howard’s classic pulp hero?

Many lost sleep over the question.

Ron Perlman Joins ‘Conan,’ ‘The Green Lantern’ Adds Two Kiwis & Apparition Picks Up ‘Welcome To The Rileys’

Ron Perlman and Said Taghmaoui have joined the cast of Marcus Nispel’s “Conan” remake. Perlman will take up the role of Conan’s father, previously rumored for Mickey Rourke, while “G.I. Joe” star Taghmaoui will play a leader of thieves who is saved by the main man. The duo join Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Bob Sapp and Leo Howard with production due to begin this week in Bulgaria.

Kiwi actors Taika Waititi and Temuera Morrison have joined Martin Campbell’s “The Green Lantern.” Waititi plays the best friend of Ryan Reynold’s Hal Jordan while Morrison, best known for his role as Jango Fett in the “Star Wars” prequels, will play a member of the Green Lantern Corps named Abin Sur.

Mickey Rourke Confirmed For ‘Dawn Of War,’ Stephen Lang Rumored To Play Villain In ‘Conan’

Last week Mickey Rourke was trying to see if he could juggle roles in both “Conan” (see below) and Tarsem Singh’s Greek mythology tale “Dawn Of War,” previously described as “Caravaggio meets ‘Fight Club'” with a pinch of Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet.” The film already stars Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto and Rourke is now confirmed. Production shoots in Montreal soon and apparently they’re contemplating 3D (naturally). The film is produced by the same people who produced “3oo” but Singh is at least a true visualist, even if his last picture, “The Fall,” was a little ridiculous (though visually rich).

Will Smith and Steven Spielberg’s unnecessary and unwarranted adaptation of Park Chan-Wook’s classic revenge film, “Oldboy” is reportedly on the rocks after legal problems with remake rights between the comic book company and the production company that dealt with Universal Pictures. There is a god. [First Showing]

After playing the ‘Governator’ in a biopic and being his body double in “Terminator Salvation,” fellow Austrian Roland Kickinger is evidently set to again live under Arnold Schwarzenegger’s shadow.

Guillermo Del Toro has reportedly confirmed that Hugo Weaving, — plus Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen — will be reprising his roles from the “Lord Of The Rings” series for “The Hobbit.” Serkis and McKellen aren’t really news and have been said to be part of the project for what feels like years now, but people are still making a fuss because there’s traffic to be made from it. We’re still waiting on who will play Bilbo Baggins though rumors about Michael Sheen sound more than good to us cause guy totally looks like a hobbit as it is and also can do that thing called acting.

Another poster for “Inglourious Basterds” has been unveiled in the form of a banner at the Cannes Film Festival. The poster features Michael Fassbender who stars as Lt. Archie Hicox, a British Army Officer who joins up with the Basterds. Of course, we’ll keep a lookout for it’s online debut. [ION Cinema]

Warner Home Video have announced that the “Watchmen” DVD and Blu-Ray will see a release on July 28th as well as an Ultimate Edition of “300” which will be out a week earlier.

Common As B.A. Baracus In Joe Carnahan’s ‘The A-Team’?

Is this the worst casting decision ever?

Could wimp socially conscious rapper Common be in line to play B.A. Baracus in Joe Carnahan’s “The A-Team” remake? When asked, the actor sounded somewhat optimistic at the prospect of re-teaming with Carnahan. “Yeah that would be something cool, but, I mean, let’s see, I can’t speak on it yet until we know what’s going on but that would be an incredible character to play.” The two previously worked together on “Smokin ‘Aces” so this potential casting could make sense.

Rob Zombie’s ‘Tyrannosaurus Rex’ Facing Snags, Brett Ratner Off ‘Conan,’ New ‘Terminator Salvation’ Trailer

Development on Rob Zombie’s “Tyrannosaurus Rex” seems to have hit a bump. “I would love to make that movie next – it may be, it may not be. I don’t know yet,” revealed Zombie. “It’s sort of hanging out there. It seems like, every year, it gets harder and harder to get a movie made. Even if you’re following up a hit, the studios – I don’t know if it’s the economy – but trying to get them to greenlight and loosen up the money is a f**kin’ nightmare.” [Shock Till You Drop]

Fanboys rejoice – Brett Ratner is now off “Conan.” The studio is currently looking for a new director, according to producer Joe Gatta, with filming scheduled to begins August 24th in Bulgaria.

TradeWatch: Spielberg Already Done Shooting ‘TinTin, ‘Green Lantern’ Will Have Sense Of Humor

Let’s get the trade stuff out of the way.

The notoriously rapid-fire shooter, Steven Spielberg has already completed 32 days of shooting on “Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn,” with stars Jamie Bell and Daniel Craig. Now 18 months of post-production, including new motion-capture technology will be handled by Peter Jackson at his special effects studio Weta in New Zealand. So who’s actually at the creative control helm, Jackson? Wasn’t the first film supposed to be Spielberg’s?
