For many people, when they hear the name Colin Kaepernick, they’re familiar with his most recent work as an outspoken activist, who was seemingly blacklisted by the NFL after kneeling during the National Anthem. But as seen in the upcoming series, “Colin in Black and White,” Kaepernick has been dealing with race, class, and culture issues since he was a child.

Co-created by Kaepernick alongside Ava DuVernay, “Colin in Black and White” is a coming-of-age series that follows the story of the young title character, as he deals with the obstacles that come with being a Black child adopted into a white family in the Midwest.

September ended up being a tremendously entertaining month for new TV series, from the collective buzz shows such as “Midnight Mass” created to the surprise, super addictive, and mega-hit “Squid Game.” Due to the surplus of quality television last month, it makes October, on the surface at least, appear a little bare in comparison, though there’s always room for another” Squid Game” to completely monopolize audiences’ attention spans.

Another fall season, another deluge of fall film festival movies and previews. If you’ve been playing along, and hopefully, you have, you’ve already seen our coverage from the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado and Italy’s Venice International Film Festival. These two fests are the one-two punch that kicks off the season (and in some respects, Oscar season two), but making its presence known in the September deluge is the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada.

It’s interesting how things change over time, huh? One of the by-products of the George Floyd murder and the Black Lives Matter protests over the last month is how the world has come around to agree with the silent protest of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Back in 2016, the athlete began kneeling during the National Anthem as a protest of police brutality against People of Color, and he was immediately met by people applauding his actions and a large number of people hating him for it.
