– As previously reported,Terry Gilliam’s “The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus” looks set to hit theaters this Christmas Day after debuting at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film, which is the last performance from the late Heath Ledger, will also be screening at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.

– Guillermo Del Toro recently took to the OneRing.net forums to address the unsubstantiated 3D rumors surrounding “The Hobbit”. “As a co-writer and director of this film, let me be very clear one more time: we are not talking about 3D, we are NOT writing the screenplay for 3D right now- we are hiring my [director of photograhpy] Guillermo Navarro to shoot the film and we are not discussing 3D with him either or with WETA digital or WB or anyone else.” You didn’t need to, Guillermo, but MarketSaw and other 3D freaks are currently in tears.

Anne Fontaine’s “Coco Avant Chanel” has a newish trailer. It’s essentially a biopic of Coco Chanel before she became a world renowned fashion designer and in that respect, it feels, sounds and looks like what, “La Vie En Rose” was to French music, only for the Gallic fashion world. It appears to be part rebel tale, drama and love story. The picture also stars Alessandro Nivola who we think is great and vastly underrated.

Considering its release date, late September, a TIFF appearance could be possible, but then again, this one’s been around internationally since the spring.

Not that the French are known for their excessive smoking or anything, but apparently there’s a law against the direct or indirect promotion of smoking in advertisements in France. Who knew? The implementation of this law has lead to a ban on the official “Coco avant Chanel” poster by Metrobus, the company who sell advertising on Paris’s subway and buses, as reported by Jezebel (via the Telegraph, who call the whole thing Kafkaesque). That ban lead to the creation of a new, and much less fashionable, movie poster that lacks any sort of elegance or flair (read: extra boring).

The trailer for the Coco Chanel bio-pic, starring Audrey Tautou (“Amelie”) and helmed by French director/writer Anne Fontaine, has hit the Internets. Amazingly enough comic book geeks aren’t that into it but we think it looks amazing. Tautou seems to have nailed Chanel’s notoriously stoic-bordering-on-harsh exterior. The opening scenes show Tautou as later era Chanel in the iconic Chanel boutique in Paris – great to have a set that is so recognizable to work with.
