Back in September, it was revealed that Jason Bateman had been signed to star in and direct a new version “Clue,” based on the board game of the same name that inspired an underrated comedy film in 1985. And adding to the intrigue, it was also announced that Ryan Reynolds would likely headline the film. Alas, Bateman’s involvement wasn’t meant to be, as the actor-turned-filmmaker was forced to leave the development of the film.

In 1985, Paramount released the comedy film “Clue,” based on the popular board game of the same title. The film was a financial flop at the time, but over the last 3+ decades, “Clue” has become a cult classic and a comedy that many look at as one of the best of that era. But Fox/Disney see the film as ripe for remaking, as the studio is moving forward with a new version of the film, with some big names attached.

Don’t think that “Clue” is happening simply because of the current blockbuster climate. Surely, it doesn’t hurt, but as far back as 2011, Universal was developing a big screen version of the board game, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (“Flash Gordon,” “Dracula: Year Zero“) hired to write the script (before that, Gore Verbinski was attached to direct).
