LAS VEGAS – Full disclosure, we’re slightly embarrassed to admit we have not screened Dario Argento’s “Suspiria.” Then again, horror of any kind is really not our thing. Perhaps that’s why we had such a visceral reaction to the extended sequence from Luca Guadagnino‘s reboot of the horror classic that Amazon Studios showed CinemaCon on Thursday.

“It’s another version. Not a remake”: Tilda Swinton on “Suspiria”

Guadagnino is now best known for Best Picture nominee “Call Me By Your Name” but when that film debuted at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival the filmmaker was already in the middle of filming this unique reinterpretation.

Timothée Chalamet is living the dream thanks to “Call Me By Your Name” [Interview]

Based on two novels, “Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction” by David Sheff and his son Nick Sheff’s “Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamine,” the movie follows the relationship between David (Steve Carell) and Nic (Chalamet) as the later deals with meth addiction in his early 20’s.

But that doesn’t mean that Cameron and Co. aren’t busy attempting to outdo the decade-old film, as we speak. In fact, according to one of the producers, “Avatar 2” is going to be bigger, and much more complex, than the previous film.

As we’ve written in the past, the idea of a sequel seemed premature either way, considering that the last film in the franchise, “Star Trek Beyond” didn’t do so hot at the box office. Well, according to Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos, not only is a sequel in the works, but there are actually two!

Abrams (the “Cloverfield” mastermind) described as a “crazy movie” previously, follows Allied soldiers in World War II, who are trapped behind enemy lines and find out that the Nazis have been using something paranormal to aide in the fight.

One of those studios is Paramount, who recently saw its film “A Quiet Place” shock the world with its box office dominance. It’s a talking point that’s so common it’s hard to avoid snickering when a filmmaker says it. So, there was some trepidation at CinemaCon on Wednesday with Travis Knight said that was his goal with the first real “Transformers” spin-off, a Bumblebee solo flick appropriately titled, “Bumblebee.” Based on the footage shown, however, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker might have just pulled it off.

No, we’re not suggesting that because of his “religious” choice or his infamous couch-jumping skills, but because of the insane stunts he continues to do in one film after another. Among his more recent exploits, he hung onto a plane that went airborne for “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” and last summer delayed the release of the next “Mission” movie, “Fallout,” after breaking his ankle while jumping onto a roof.
