All almost-33 minutes of the new instrumental score the Flaming Lips wrote for their wacky, psychedelic Xmas movie, “Christmas On Mars,” is streaming online as we speak.

We’re listening to it right now and it’s pretty damn evocative and wonderfully strange. We’d almost rather listen to their freaky score material than their pop albums of late which haven’t been that great since Yoshimi (which even itself was a so-so record with a few gems).

It looks like this Christmas we might all get the present we’ve been waiting on for nearly a decade (and not just that Wii). “Christmas On Mars,” the long, long-awaited movie by Oklahoma’s resident weirdists The Flaming Lips is finally coming to select theaters, with a DVD and accompanying soundtrack release date of November 11th. If Guns N’ Roses get their act together, this may be the best Christmas ever!

What canned cliche can we write here about Christmas coming early, but actually it’s late (!)because the Flaming Lips’ “Christmas On Mars” film is the Chinese Democracy of rock movies? Ho, ho, ho, blargh.The drugged-out and loopy film is apparently bad (like you couldn’t have guessed), but sometimes mildly entertaining if you’re on copious drugs. Whatever. Pfork has a bizarro instrumental track from the soundtrack album that will be included on the DVD/CD that now comes out 11/11 according to the Lips’ site (originally it was this month).

When the Flaming Lips revealed in 2001 that they were working on a science fiction film, fans acqainted with their loud, spectacle-driven live show jumped for joy. The Lips has just created two space rock classics, The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, and possessed a seemingly bottomless hat of tricks to shock audiences into blissed-out, blood-stained freakouts buried under pounds of confetti.

Well, Christmas on Mars has finally landed on planet Earth and the verdict is, well, not nearly as bad as you expected.

The Flaming Lips’ ‘Christmas On Mars’ To Hit New York Sept. 12, Plus New Trailer

“Christmas On Mars” the long-overdue film by the Flaming Lips might be due on DVD in October, but the film will hit New York theaters on September 12 via film distrib Cinema Purgatorio.

The film will start in NY in Sept, and will then begin a national underground rollout shortly thereafter.

The film will be presented in a custom-designed cinema at the KGB Complex at 85 East Fourth Street in New York, screening in high definition video and the custom designed Zeta Bootis Mega Supersonic Super-Sound Surround System, which the band created for the film.

– The Flaming Lips are not only holding to their promise this time, they’re actually getting there early for once. The band with the terrible track record, where their movie is concerned, had previously said they’d hope to have the long-overdue “Christmas On Mars” ready for DVD by Christmas. Now the disc is coming out in October, though no specific street date has been reported yet. The official and new trailer is out as well.

The Flaming Lips’ ‘Christmas On Mars’ Playing At Bonaroo Cinema, DVD Finally Coming This Xmas?

The poor Flaming Lips and their painfully overdue film, “Christmas On Mars,” a flick that we’ve dogged so hard cause they’ve literally missed every deadline they’ve ever discussed and talked the film up so much it began to sound as real as the Easter Bunny.

Well, the film is done and recently has its debut at the Sasquatch film festival. Hippies and jam band fans will also be able to catch it at the Bonaroo music festival this weekend on Sunday June 15 (with lead Lip Wayne Coyne introducing the film)

Is the film finally coming to DVD this Christmas?

The trailer to Fred Durst’s feel-good sports film, “The Longshots” has hit the web. It stars rapper Ice Cube. The world couldn’t care less. [YouTube]

Despite, mediocre reviews, “The Foot Fist Way” star Danny McBride and the whole, “he’s the greatest comedian since slice bread” story keep on being regurgitated.

Guys, some music might help this shit out a little bit. Yeah, it’s meant to be odd and uncomfortable, but you know, with some humor?

Does anyone even give a rat’s ass about “Christmas on Mars” anymore? The painfully long-overdue Flaming Lips Xmas film is sort of like the Lochness Monster, Chinese Democracy and Big Foot rolled into one.

In October, the Lips’ Wayne Coyne swore up and down that the film would be ready for the 2008 SXSW film festival and of course that they blew that deadline like a whore in Vegas.

Well, speaking of Big Foot and long-standing myths, according to Billboard, via Extended Play, the Lips will premiere “Christmas on Mars” at the 2008 Sasquatch!
