Almost 20 years ago, after actor-filmmaker Sean Astin finished his role in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, he was looking for another project to tackle. And according to a new interview with Collider, Astin thought that project might have been “Fantastic Four.”

In the video below, you can hear Sean Astin talk about fighting to get his version of “Fantastic Four” made, while also jumping through hoops with folks at Fox.

Surprise of the century: The “Burlesque” soundtrack has a ton of tunes from Christina Aguilera and Cher, its two stars. (Plus one for co-star Kristin Bell.) If you’ve somehow managed to dodge reports on this movie and are still, for some reason, interested in it, then here you go: “Burlesque” would seem to represent the point at which Mariah Carey’s vanity project “Glitter” and Baz Luhrmann’s costumed spectacle “Moulin Rougue” meet in some unholy union.

Initially deriving from satirical musical performances in Europe in the 18th century (and a term going all the way back to Geoffrey Chaucer), the meaning of ‘burlesque’ has altered over time, evolving over the 20th century, becoming raunchier, now best known, since its recent revival of fortunes, as a kind of alternative striptease, featuring lavish costumes and a kind of teasing wit.

None of these elements can be found in the trailer for “Burlesque,” Screen Gems’ upcoming musical starring Christina Aguilera as an aspiring dancer who gets work at a Hollywood club, run by a former star of the profession (Cher).

Since no one cares about her new album “Bionic” or the Lada Gaga aping video for “Not Myself Tonight” that it spawned, Christina Aguilera is probably hoping that the upcoming musical “Burlesque” will save her career. A first look at the film has arrived and well, it pretty much looks like a feature-length version of that “Lady Marmalade” video. The film, which follows a small town girl who finds her calling in life by burlesque dancing, will hit theaters on November 24th.

In the biggest news to hit the undersexed film writer community since the Great Natalie Portman/Mila Kunis Overload of ’09, Kristen Bell will play Christina Aguilera’s main rival in the upcoming musical “Burlesque,” and it’s sent the Internet all aflutter. Soulless popster Aguilera will play a small town girl with a big voice who starts working in an LA burlesque club, “reminiscent of the nightclub in Bob Fosse’s “Cabaret.” Great, so even the production design will be derivative…

Bell will play Nikki, the lead dancer at the club “who spirals out of control when Aguilera’s character suddenly gets the spotlight.”Also in the cast, as we previously reported, are Stanley Tucci, as the club’s manager, and Cher, as a veteran dancer.

Stanley Tucci Does ‘Burlesque’; Paul Haggis Fleshes Out ‘Three Days’ Cast

– Stanley Tucci will play a club manager in the musical “Burlesque,” directed by Steve Antin (yes, Troy in “The Goonies”). Cher, in her first role since her cameo in “Stuck on You,” will play a veteran dancer who takes a small town girl (Christina Aguilera) under her wing. Tucci’s built up enough goodwill that we won’t begrudge him a paycheck job like this, but it does sound nearly unbearable, particularly considering Antin’s involvement in the Pussycat Dolls.

Hugh Hefner has given his stamp of approval for the prospect of Robert Downey Jr. playing him in a biopic (for what seems like the third time). Of the potential project, the Hef revealed: “Downey and I have talked about it and it is a very real possibility. He’s a marvelous actor and I would be honored if he decided to do it.” That’ll be easy enough for Downey Jr. He’ll just channel Tony Stark again.

Jason Segel Writing Songs For Russell Brand’s ‘Get Him To The Greek’

The intra-collaborative love of the Judd Apatow-crew continues. Russell Brand is obviously working on a spin-off to “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” where he once again plays the obnoxious rock star Aldous Snow that made Jason Segel’s character a living hell by stealing his ex-girlfriend (played by Kristen Bell), only this time, the British rocker has fallen off the wagon and all hell breaks loose.

The film, you might recall, is called, “Get HimTo The Greek,” (called a dirty, ‘Almost Famous’ like comedy) and also stars Jonah Hill in a different role as a young music executive who has to get the debauched and out-of-control Brand to a gig at the L.A.

Oasis To Cameo In ‘Get Him To The Greek’?

We had some friends at the ground floor of the MTV Video Music Awards last year and they reported that Russell Brand and Britney Spears collaborator Jonah Hill, were doing pre-production work on the same lot for the upcoming “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” sorta-sequel, ” “Get Him to the Greek”; taking advantage of access to some the female musicians by shooting vignettes with the likes of Pink, Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera.

Now Rolling Stone reports that Oasis’ Liam and Noel Gallagher might have cameos in the Judd Apatow-produced picture as well.

This year the MTV VMAs returned to L.A. for the first time in a decade and the production’s placement on the Paramount lot turned up some interesting collaborations. The group behind the forthcoming Judd Apatow produced, “Get Him to the Greek,” which is set to star VMA host Russell Brand and Britney Spears collaborator Jonah Hill, are doing pre-production work on the same lot and decided to take advantage of access to some the female musicians by shooting vignettes with them that can be inserted into the film.

Scorsese’s ‘Shine A Light’ Not Bad For An Overly Long Live Doc With Many Old People Close-Ups

While watching Martin Scorsese’s “Shine A Light” documentary/glorified live concert we realized the entire problem with the Boomer generation is one of viable sexuality. The thing that makes the Rolling Stones still touring so much more abhorrent than, say, The Who or Paul McCartney, is that a large portion of their greatest hits are about fucking.

Most of us have no desire to hear “Let’s Spend the Night Together” from a shirtless 65 year old man, even if he is in amazing shape.

Rolling Stones Soundtrack TBD Tracklist; DVD Set For July 1

While there’s no date for the Rolling Stone Shine A Light soundtrack disc yet, a list of songs shot in the film under consideration have been released. Also, the “Shine A Light” film is evidently already being scheduled for a July 1 release according to a press release about the film.

The film that just had its big debut in Berlin is all the press rage at the moment (or at least for the next 24 hours).It features special guests in Buddy Guy, White Stripes’ Jack White and Christine Aguilera joining the Stones onstage.
