If you’re a person of a certain age, you are probably well aware of the cultural impact that “The X-Files” had during the ‘90s. Everywhere you looked, there was Mulder and Scully and the phrase, “The truth is out there.” Well, it appears that “The X-Files” might be making a return thanks to none other than Ryan Coogler. Yes, that Ryan Coogler.

According to an interview with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko (via Bloody Disgusting), Chris Carter teased that Ryan Coogler is currently developing a new version of “The X-Files.” It’s unclear if this will be a remake, reboot, sequel, rebootquel, or whatever, but just the fact that Coogler is involved seems like enough to get anyone excited about this.

So that’s what “shortly” means to David Madden. Months after the Fox head told the Television Critics Association that an “X-Files” renewal could happen “shortly,” the network has finally followed through, announcing a new order of 10 episodes to (likely) air sometime in 2018. The announcement was first made on social media with an official statement following shortly thereafter.
