Louis C.K. put his award-winning, critically acclaimed, hit FX series “Louie” on indefinite hiatus two years ago, claiming he wanted to do something else for a while. This raised a few eyebrows, since “Louie” has always been more like an eclectic collection of short films than a conventional sitcom. If C.K. wanted to overhaul the show entirely, there’s no reason why he couldn’t have just made an entirely new set of characters, themes, and ideas for his new “Louie.”

But it’s hard to argue too much against what the writer-director-comedian has done with his career since the last (for now) “Louie” aired back in May of 2015.

The wide selection of movies coming to the Toronto International Film Festival run the gamut from arthouse baubles to blockbuster movies to awards season contenders. And then there are pictures like “Brain On Fire,” where we’re not sure quite which category they’ll fall into. But that makes us all the more curious to check them out.

Directed by Gerard Barrett, the filmmaker behind the indie fave “Glassland,” Chloe Grace Moretz stars in this film, based on the memoir by Sussanah Cahalan, about one young woman’s descent into madness and her struggle to survive.

The original “Neighbors” is one of the more pleasant surprises of the last few years. On the surface a high-concept comedy of the kind that are usually disappointing and interchangeable, in the hands of “Get Him To The Greek” helmer Nicholas Stoller, it became one of the best studio comedies of the last decade. A consistently funny, good-looking picture that was much more interesting than it had any right to be, “Neighbors” was tighter than the often over-padded norm for the genre, had a strong and entirely relatable thematic core behind it, and featured revelatory performances from Rose Byrne and Zac Efron.
