You can hire the best actors, the best screenwriter, and the most inspired director, but without top-tier editing, the result can be an embarrassing mess. The American Cinema Editors are the best of the best in keeping Hollywood moving, especially during a pandemic-effected era. The organization handed out their ACE Eddie Awards on Saturday with “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (in something of an upset), “The Queen’s Gambit,” “Schitt’s Creek,” “Better Call Saul,” “Ozark,” “My Octopus Teacher” as the big winners.

With the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards less than a week away and five nights of virtual Creative Emmy Awards beginning tonight, the Television Critics Association finally unveiled their own annual honorees with the TCA Awards. And, as expected, HBO’s “Watchmen,” “Succession” and Pop’s “Schitt’s Creek” took the top categories. A trifecta many believe will be duplicated at the Emmys.

In fact, Damon Lindelof’s acclaimed mini-series took four TCA awards: Individual Achievement in Drama (Regina King), Outstanding New Program, Outstanding Movie, Mini-Series or Special and the coveted Program of the Year.

There are a little over three days left in Emmy nomination voting and the Television Critics Association (TCA) has given Television Academy members who haven’t completed their ballots yet something to think about. The nominations for the 2020 TCA Awards are out and featured a number of pleasant surprises. Not so surprising where the two programs that earned the most nominations, “Watchmen” and “Unbelievable” with four each.

Monica Aldama is a legend in the sport of competitive cheerleading, but you probably never heard her name before the Netflix docuseries “Cheer” debuted earlier this year. If there is a Pat Summit, Mike Krzyzewski or Phil Jackson in the sport it’s Aldama. Since she took over as coach of Navarro College’s cheer program the school has won 14 national championships since 2000 alone. She’s built a dynasty and, as the series chronicled, a family.
