Okay, what’s so bad about sequels? Honestly, there are some great sequels (“The Godfather Part II,” “T2: Judgment Day,” “The Dark Knight,” “Aliens,” etc…). However, there’s this idea that if something is a sequel then it must automatically be terrible. And it appears that the folks over at Warner Bros. are adopting that idea with their upcoming slate of superhero films.

The extensive reshoots on “Justice League” saw some substantial changes made to the film. Jesse Eisenberg‘s return as Lex Luthor was reportedly axed, while the success of “Wonder Woman” saw Gal Gadot‘s heroine apparently get more scenes and screentime. Even the overall tone was rumored to get a lighter makeover. However, when all is said and done, “Justice League” will be known for its clashing of two visions as the movie does truly feel like the work of two distinctly different filmmakers.

Generally speaking, Hollywood likes to put their carts well in advance of their horse, announcing sequels and franchise plans long before they’ve really gotten out of the gate. It makes for good copy and gives the impression that everyone behind the vehicle is feeling confident, but Warner Bros. — who are juggling what seems like a good dozen DC Films projects — are taking a more cautious position when it comes to “Wonder Woman.”

The latest DCEU film opens in cinemas next week, and while early word is very good, producer Charles Roven reveals that no followup is planned just yet.
