It’s rare for a show that appears to be running out of ideas to return two years later with the creative force that courses through the fourth season of Prime Video’s “The Boys.” After a couple of seasons of arguable wheel-spinning, seasons that seemed desperate to top the shock value of the first but didn’t do much with the complex themes or dense potential world-building in its abundance of ideas, “The Boys” oozes creative confidence with this outing and sets the table in a manner that bodes well for the future of this massive streaming hit.

The superheroes-on-screen landscape is in an interesting place. The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is as ambiguous and rumor mill-worthy as its ever been; the DC brand in 2019 is limited to the upcoming “Joker” and a handful of reliable TV mainstays in “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl” and others; and the recent cancellation of “Jessica Jones” on Netflix hammered the final nail into the coffin of a relatively short-lived partnership with Marvel.

Eric Parkinson, CEO of indie distributor Hannover House, hit Facebook today to plead with people to raise the IMDB ranking of Joel Schumacher’s forthcoming youth-and-drugs drama “Twelve.” The film has had non-existent if not outright negative buzz. Starring a fairly random cast, including Chace Crawford, Kiefer Sutherland, 50 Cent, Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin and Ellen Barkin, the film is based on the book by Nick McDonnell and chronicles a bunch of rich white kids who experience the bad side of drugs.

The studio suffered a similar blow when Zac Efron dropped out so as to not be typecast. Who knew that two teen stars would give up, of all things, a chance to be in “Footloose.” Unscathed, Paramount seems to be eyeing an unknown for the main role, probably to derail any future flakiness. As for Chase, the only thing that is confirmed to be on his plate is another season of “Gossip Girl” though he was a time in the running to suit up for “Captain America.”

Variety brings us word that Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow”) will be directing this remake.
