It’s hard to believe how much Daniel Craig’s James Bond tenure has popped up over my career as a journalist. I was barely in the game when I interviewed Martin Campbell for “Casino Royale.” I was beyond lucky enough to visit both “Quantum of Solace” sets in Bregenz, Austria, and at Chile’s Paranal Observatory in the Atacama Desert. Because, hey, it’s one thing to talk to Craig in a hotel suite for an interview, but it’s another to chit-chat after he’s done an action scene as 007.

With the streaming service’s current release mode set to full-on tidal wave, it can be overwhelming just thinking about what to watch and even keeping up on what’s new and worth your time. Hopefully, we can be of service, as both items on this show’s talk sheet are worth your time.

In theory, the idea of “True Detective” and soon-to-be “Bond 25,” filmmaker Cary Joji Fukunaga creating an absurdist, surrealist version of “Inception,” meets “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind“— only, instead of dreams and erasure, using mental illness, depression and schizophrenia as a vehicle for exploring memories, fantasy, guilt and regret —sounds mind-blowingly interstellar.

Boyle was a coup for the franchise — the second Oscar-winner to take on a 007 joint, and his take, with long-time writer John Hodge, was said to be a very particular pitch that had caused Eon to abandon a previous iteration that had directors like David Mackenzie, Denis Villeneuve and Yann Demange circling.

Nice casting and a gooood luck. A few weeks ago it was reported that Cary Joji Fukunaga, the writer director behind one of the most auspicious debut features of the year, “Sin Nombre,” had his next project on track and no it wasn’t his musical with members of the Arcade Fire and Beirut, a sci-fi time travel film or the African child soldier adaptation, “Beasts of No Nation.”

Nope, instead he surprised everyone, including some close associates that we know, by announcing he would now helm an adaptation of the classic Charlotte Bronte novel “Jane Eyre.”

And now he has cast members biting.

2009 has been a great year for new and emerging filmmakers. It’s taken him the better part of a decade, but Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn’s cult status has bubbled over. Maybe not into the mainstream, but his name is on the lips of many cinephiles. We then began to realize other new, young filmmakers were having banner years so we wanted to take a look at seven new directors (and one we’re on the fence about) breaking through in 2009 and soon to achieve (if they haven’t already) bonafide auteur status.

Ever since we saw Cary Joji Fukunaga’s auspicious debut, “Sin Nombre,” at the 2009 SXSW Film Festival two weeks ago, we’ve pretty much become instant fans of the young, preternaturally wise and articulate filmmaker (he’s a fan of Walter Murch which also earns him points). We’re not the only ones, Time Out New York called his soulful and humanistic immigration drama an, “arresting debut, a movie that moves—swiftly, fatalistically—to a violent and bittersweet finale.”

We talked to Fukunaga last week — who has a first look deal with Universal and Focus Features (who enthusiastically put out ‘Nombre’) and he told us that he’s working on a musical that could feature the music of orchestral indie-rockers Beirut and Final Fantasy (a sometime-member of the Arcade Fire) if all goes well.

Continuing our coverage of the Zach Condon of Beirut and Cary Fukunaga (director of the recently released indie drama “Sin Nombre”) potential collaborations.

As we just noted Condon was tapped to do the score of the Mexico-set “Sin Nombre,” but the collaboration didn’t work out (though it was still fruitful for Condon musically).

However, just because they weren’t on the same page, doesn’t mean they won’t ever work together again. Quite the contrary, in fact, in what is a wet-dream for “where movies meets music” nerds like us, Fukunaga is in talks with Condon and Owen Pallet of the one-man-band violin show Final Fantasy (and sometimes Arcade Fire member) to potentially write the compositions for a musical that the director has in mind for his next project.

Something we noticed just recently in our research of “Sin Nombre,” the incredible feature-film debut of director Cary Fukunaga.

Did you know that multi-culti indie-rocker Zach Condon of Beirut (he of the sometimes Eastern European oompapah mien) was set to compose his first score to the immigration drama cum human suffering tale?

Fukunaga, a fan of the Brooklyn-based songwriter approached Condon to compose the score, but after some failed attempts, including a trip to Mexcio, the collaboration fizzled out.

It’s Friday, it’s slow and we generally like to (or should) use this time to just ramble on about whatever, which we don’t do enough because we’re too busy chasing news. This post by Jeffrey Wells about “Sin Nombre” inadvertently inspired us. He calls the excellent debut, the “second near-great, sterling-silver, belongs-to-the-ages movie I’ve seen this year. (The first one that qualifies is ‘The Hurt Locker’.) It’s a tough, fully-believable story about survival, love, family and fate.” And as usual he’s on the money.

Cary Joji Fukunaga spoke about his incredible debut feature, “Sin Nombre” at length in the post-screening Q&A at the SXSW Film Festival, but we thought our friends at Lakeshore records would get a kick out of the fact, we publically reminded him who was putting out his own soundtrack (which came out digitally yesterday and comes out on disc on march 24). He also discusses where he found the actors in the film, the excellent leads Edgar Flores and Paulina Gaitan, the former being a non-actor the latter an up-and-coming actress from Mexico, who is quite remarkable in the film.

The soundtrack for Cary Joji Fukunaga’s astonishing feature debut “Sin Nombre,” beautifully realized and composed by Marcelo Zarvos (“The Good Shepherd,” an upcoming vignette in “New York I Love You”) doesn’t come out until March 24, but the music is available digitally today via ITunes. The film is about Central American immigrants that go through extreme circumstances and perils riding trains to reach Mexico and the United States and attempt to enter illegally.

As already noted by our brief SXSW Film Fest report and those who already saw the film at Sundance earlier this year, “Sin Nombre” is a pretty spectacular debut for filmmaker Cary Joji Fukunaga.
