Months and even years of internet squabbling over “Ghostbusters” have to led to this weekend, with Paul Feig‘s reboot finally hitting cinemas. And the result? An opening that’s neither a homerun nor a failure, exactly. Sony is likely okay with the numbers, but maybe not as ecstatic as their official statements sound, as the reboot still has a major hill to climb.

“A movie like this has to at least get to like $500 million worldwide, and that’s probably low,” Paul Feig admitted to Vulture, and the $46 million start for the movie this weekend, which landed in second place, leaves a long way to go for the movie, which cost between $140-150 million (plus marketing).

The canon of latter day Woody Allen movies can sometimes be a crapshoot — for every “Midnight In Paris” there tends to be a “To Rome With Love” not far behind. But the director seems to have found his stride in his latest, “Café Society.” While it’ll never be mistaken for Allen’s top tier works, our review from Cannes declares it’s “his most charming [film] in years,” which should be a strong enough endorsement to get folks to buy a ticket.

Universal tried to have its cake and eat it too with “The Huntsman: Winter’s War.” Not only did the studio attempt to make a prequel/sequel to “Snow White And The Huntsman,” a movie no one really cared about to begin with, but it tried to do so without the titular fairy tale character played by Kristen Stewart. The actress was at the center of a storm of tabloid coverage during the making of ‘Snow White’ after she entered into a relationship with director Rupert Sanders, and the studio decided to move the franchise forward without the participation of the filmmaker and actress.
