At a recent round-table interview with the cast, filmmakers, and author (Bryan Lee O’Malley), of the much-hyped “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” the film’s director Edgar Wright revealed no current plans for a possible sequel to what could be the hit of the late summer. While the movie isn’t even out yet, and so it seems all too premature to start speculating on sequels, it is well known that such is the state of the industry that sequels are often planned before the first movie is even shot (see: all comic book properties).

Throughout our track-by-track review, when talking about the songs by Sex Bob-Omb, the fictional band fronted by Scott Pilgrim in the forthcoming “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” we noted the song’s lo-fi, grimy, punk aesthetic. Well it appears that Beck, tapped to write the tunes that the band would perform in the film, had a great reference point to work from.

Speaking with actor Michael Cera and comic writer Bryan O’Malley, the LA Times reports that, initially, O’Malley was championing Matador Records’ Midwest punkers Times New Viking to write the songs for Sex Bob-Omb.

Although nearly everyone agrees that the trailer looks insanely enjoyable, the creators of “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” are still taking a cautionary approach to the early fanboy love for the film.

After the trailer got jillions of views online — the Apple Trailers site even went down due to the crazy demand — director Edgar Wright and producer/comic creator Bryan Lee O’Malley were met with near universal praise. The duo have the kind of buzz nearly every director and comic book writer could ever dream of, but are wary of celebrating too soon.

Just in time for the release of the upcoming “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” on August 12th, is Bryan Lee O’Malley’s sixth and final installment of the ‘Scott Pilgrim series. Titled “Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour,” the book will arrive on July 20th, just a few short weeks before the film’s release (how convenient Mr. O’Malley! 😉 ). The cover for the book (left) has also been revealed at the Oni Press website.

As we reported last month, the script of the film follows the first three volumes of the series then ventures off into its own territory while still maintaining the spirit of the books.

Updated: The official ‘SPVSTW’ site has the actual version of the teaser poster that’s not shot off a stand.

We’re only six months away from the release of Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim Versus The World,” easily one of our most anticipated films of the year, and the film’s marketing materials are starting to appear. While at Showest, SlashFilm found a first official teaser poster, and it’s unsurprisingly ace.

Taken almost exactly from the title page of the first comic book, “Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life,” it suggests how faithful Wright seems to be keeping to the spirit of the book (but, at least from the looks of the script, he won’t be afraid to depart from the source material where necessary, unlike certain other comic adaptations; *cough* “Watchmen” *cough*), and we already feel better about Michael Cera’s casting in the lead.

Edgar Wright is sticking to the script.

Last year we read the funny, clever and entertaining screenplay for “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” written by Wright and Michael Bacall (also an actor, who appeared in small roles in “Inglourious Basterds” and Tarantino’s “Death Proof”) and honestly, we enjoyed the hell out of it. It was crisp, sharp, and really amusing with some awesome, memorable quips. It’s no wonder some have said it has elements of a modern-day “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

After reading the screenplay we also noted the key differences between Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel and the script.

So the U.S. date can’t be far be behind and or will hit around that same time, yes? Yes, speaking to MTV about the special effects in the film and the picture in general, he confirmed an August date.

It’s Friday so, it’s about that time. The new Edgar Wright, “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” vlog number 7, is one of our favorites just cause it’s chill and amusing. In minor news, it also reveals three minor characters in the script, but one rather beloved in Michael Comeau, a bespectacled ubiquitous character who just knows everyone there is (who looks dead-on for the part, nice work).

Wiki’s got a good (and accurate) recap on every one of these characters.

Still catching up on the catching up.

“Scott Pilgrim” creator Bryan Lee O’Malley has confirmed what some of us already know. Edgar Wright’s adaptation of “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” will not include any elements of his upcoming and final, Volume 6 in the Scott Pilgrim series.

How do we know this? We’ve already read the script and actually wrote about this a while ago. But yes, not only does the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ film not include what’s in the not-yet-released Volume 6, it actually departs quite a bit from the actual novels especially through Volumes 3-5, but this isn’t a bad thing.

Here is the latest installment of the official “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” video blogs courtesy of the film’s official blog.

The overarching theme of this edition is the page-to-screen translation of the graphic novel, and we find ourselves throughout the blog visiting Bryan Lee O’Malley’s happy hunting grounds for inspiration for his artwork. The day’s shooting seems to focus on Scott Pilgrim and Knives Chau, respectively played by Michael Cera and Ellen Wong, as we first find them walking through the neighborhood of Pilgrim and best friend Wallace Wells’ “hole-in-the-wall” apartment.

Hold it right there comic book geeks! Looks like you fell for another whisper campaign and this time it was at no less skilled hands than Superman himself, Brandon Routh. Don’t you just love when actors with bit parts in movies don’t really know what’s going on, drop some nugget in an interview and then the whole Interwebs loses its shit a little?

Now we’ve got Mark Webber (who’s an equally bit player in the movie as the character Stephen Stills) and Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley saying, via MTV, the film will not have any animation, but that you can expect some CGI type enhancement in the fight scenes.

Director Edgar Wright (“Hot Fuzz,” “Shaun of the Dead”) thankfully doesn’t need to see “Watchmen,” to know xerox regurgitating adaptations don’t do anyone any good outside a few myopic purists.

Currently filming an adaptation of the excellent graphic novel “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” in Toronto, Wright talked to Now magazine last week and he insisted plenty of comic book films like “Danger Diabolik” and those that weren’t direct adaptations but had a comic book feel — like “RoboCop” — have been made and they weren’t verbatim transcriptions, but were keenly in the spirit of the original work.

Another day, another Edgar Wright, photoblog pic of a cast member of “Scott Pilgrim Vs.
We think our editions of Scott Pilgrim, #3, 4 and 5 came in the mail today. We can’t wait. At some point we’ll have to tire of posting every single cast member and count on it, we will.

Chud talked to ‘Pilgrim’ creator Bryan Lee O’Malley recently and while there’s no real details in their report (yet, more is coming), the author did defend the casting of Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim.

Has Jason Schwartzman joined Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the graphic novel, “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”?

According to a throwaway line in a Variety article about Jonah Hill’s “Adventurer’s Handbook” (in which Schwartzman co-stars) the answer is quite clearly, yes. “Schwartzman next shoots the HBO series pilot “Bored to Death,” and then stars in Universal’s ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.’ ‘

Who’s he playing? We asked one of our Toronto sources who knows a thing or two about the production and they say Schwartzman has been on Wright’s mind from day one to play the ultimate 7th evil boyfriend, Gideon Gordon Graves (the film is being shot in Toronto in the spring).

Last week the kids were all a buzzed on their twitter, Brandon Routh said Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” graphic novel adaptation would feature hand-drawn animation in some action sequences.

Mmmm, maybe not so much says ‘Pilgrim’ artist/writer Bryan Lee O’Malley who appeared at New York Comic Con this weekend. “I think what he said was kind of blown out of proportion by the rumor mill,” O’Malley told MTV. “It’s not going to be like half the thing is hand-animated, like they’re saying on the Internet lately.”

O’Malley says Routh’s comments were “more about special effects and incorporating some hand-drawn doodling and stuff.” He made clear: “It’s not going to be a hand-drawn Michael Cera.”

The graphic novelist says he might be involved with the movie, but as of right now it’s too early to tell.
