Peter Dinklage is often considered one of the best actors working today. However, in recent years, the performer regularly shows up in some of the most surprising places. That could be as a huge dwarf in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or perhaps as the bad guy in a “Transformers” film. Brendan Fraser Lands Roles In Scorsese’s ‘Killers’ & The New Film From ‘Palm Springs’ Director

So, are we in the middle of a Fraser-aissance? As in Brendan Fraser? This really started in 2018 with the actor appearing in the Danny Boyle-directed series, “Trust.” From there, he appeared as a voice in the acclaimed DC superhero series “Doom Patrol.” And just this year, he’s already shown up in Steven Soderbergh’s “No Sudden Move.” Let’s not forget he recently signed on to star in Darren Aronofsky’s latest too.

After starring in films such as “Green Room” and “Blue Ruin,” both directed beautifully by Jeremy Saulnier, Blair went on to write the films “Small Crimes,” “Hold the Dark,” and “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore.” The latter of which also serves as his directorial debut.

Weekend Box Office: ‘Avatar’ Joins The Billion Dollar Club

Three weekends of at least $68 million. This is getting ridiculous, America. We know it’s cold and dreary outside, and you probably want to stay away from your families for the holidays. But, we dunno, isn’t there something better to do with your time? “Avatar” is a good bit of fun, for sure, but does this film really merit these ridiculous grosses? At $350 million domestic, part of a billion dollar worldwide take (Jesus, man!), “Avatar” is unquestionably the people’s choice.

Jim Sheridan Chats New Projects, Says ‘Dreamhouse’ Is Next

With “Brothers” barely a week into its theatrical release (btw, we really liked it), director Jim Sheridan is ready to talk about he’s working on next. The dudes over at Dark Horizons managed to get the director to chat about the handful of projects that his name has been attached to over the past little while to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

So, here’s the quick rundown and you can read the complete details right here:

“Dreamhouse” – This is the next one that’s going to go in front of cameras, and Sheridan hopes to get things rolling in February (which pretty much means he’s not going to be hosting any Oscar cocktail parties for “Brothers”).

Weekend Box Office- When Does ‘Avatar’ Come Out Again?

The holiday movie season is about to become very busy, so the first weekend of December was looking like a weak sister for awhile now. Still, the beat goes on for “The Blind Side,” which continued its improbable run by landing at #1 in its third week. The hooray-for-institutionalized-racism drama has been surging since a pretty good opening, but it probably owes its success to a wide-open marketplace and the diminishing returns of huge opener “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” “Blind Side” might stop short of $200 million if the legs drop out in coming weeks, but who knows?

Ever since the United States’ involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hollywood has released a steady trickle of documentaries and feature films that all take a strong moral position on the war, that has largely not made for very good cinema. The problem with the “Iraq war film” (which is pretty much a genre unto its own now) is that it more often than not trades politics for plot, resulting in stridently voiced material that doesn’t necessarily make for compelling viewing.

U2 Sings ‘Winter’ For Oscar

A couple of days ago, we reported that Leona Lewis was lined up to sing “I See You (Theme From Avatar)” for um, “Avatar,” and some people were sort of (hilariously) offended that we would dare to suggest that song might be anything but good.

Well, we’re ready to take on another round of bloggers (and U2 fans) furrowing their brows at us, because we’ve actually heard U2’s “Winter,” written for the forthcoming Jim Sheridan film “Brothers” and it sucks.

First Reviews Of Jim Sheridan’s ‘Brothers’ Surface

OK, no one’s really seen it yet, but two “reviews” of Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” are out there. One, from the L.A. Times, is not really a review per se and it comes from Oscar blogger Peter Hammond so proceed with caution because as we all remember, his taste is rather crap and he was named the Movie Quote Whore Of The Year in 2007 by EFilmCritics.

As discussed several times here, “Brothers” is a remake of the 2004 Danish film, “Broder,” directed by Susanne Bier.

New Trailer & Images: Jim Sheridan’s ‘Brothers’ With Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal & Natalie Portman

As evinced by a post yesterday, Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” is a movie that intrigues and interest us. Everything we’ve seen hasn’t necessarily blown us away — in fact, kind of the opposite — but because we’re big fans of the original 2004 Danish film, “Broder,” directed by Susanne Bier, which this one is based on, we’re curious to see where it goes.

It’s essentially a tale of two siblings, one a black sheep (Jake Gyllenhaal in this version), and one the responsible father (Tobey Maguire) who is shipped off to Afghanistan and then believed dead when his helicopter goes down over enemy lines.

Tobey Maguire Got All Serious & Method For Jim Sheridan’s ‘Brothers’; Film Is Partly “Gloomy”?

Can a film that has pretty much zero Oscar buzz come out of nowhere to get some? Seems unlikely especially in the case of a film like Jim Sherdian’s “Brothers” that feels like its been delayed indefinitely (despite the insistence of some who claim it was simply just saved for the following year).

The script we read for “Brothers” was ok, it didn’t blow us away and the trailer didn’t quite dazzle either (Tobey Maguire appears as a bit of a one-note villain), but we’d be lying if we said the film didn’t intrigue us.

Danish Director Susanne Bier To Direct Rom-Com ‘Which Brings Me To You’?

Whoa, here’s a major change of pace.

One of the more exciting and interesting directors to come out of Denmark in recent years (aside from the obvious Lars Von Trier and folks like Lone Scherfig, Niels Arden Oplev and Nicolas Winding Refn)?

Definitely Susanne Bier. She’s been three for three (at least) in the last few years delivering a trio of great pictures including “Brothers” (now remade by Jim Sheridan and coming out in December), “After the Wedding” (another great Mads Mikkelsen performance, and more importantly it scored an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film) as well as the underappreciated Benicio Del Toro-starrer, her English-language debut, “Things We Lost in the Fire” in 2007.

Daniel Craig Joins Jim Sheridan’s Psychological Thriller, ‘Dream House’

Jim Sheridan’s long-awaited remake of Susanna Bier’s “Brothers” finally hits theaters in the late fall on December 4, but that doesn’t mean the Irish dramatist is resting on his laurels.

He already has the next project in line and it sounds like a change of gears for the director, who is generally of the personal character study persuasions like, “In America,” and “My Left Foot.” On tap next for the director is a psychological thriller called “Dream House,” for Morgan Creek — evidently their first production in three years.

Here’s your first look at the minimalist and austere poster for Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire.

The film is a remake of the haunting 2004 Danish film, “Brødre” by Susanna Bier (“Things We Lost In The Fire,” “After The Wedding,” the 2002 Dogme film, “Open Hearts”) which starred Connie Nielsen (the character Portman will play) as the veritable lead in a love triangle between two brothers (Ulrich Thomsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas).

‘Spider-Man 4’ Gets A Tokyo Suckerpunch-Up From Writer Gary Ross

Tobey Maguire has a horse, and his name ain’t “Seabiscuit”- content on working with only a small circle of filmmakers since the original “Spider-Man,” Maguire and Sony are turning to Oscar nominated screenwriter Gary Ross to re-write “Spider-Man 4.” This is the third time Ross and Maguire are working together- Ross previously directed Maguire in “Pleasantville” and “Seabiscuit,” but the two have long been associated with an Ed Solomon adaptation of the cult pulp novel “Tokyo Suckerpunch,” which recently experienced another delay due to the departure of Maguire co-star Anne Hathaway.

The first trailer for Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire has been unveiled and, true to it’s Oscar-season release date, exhibits a emotionally powerful film set to draw the attention of the Academy.

In the film, Gyllenhaal plays the black sheep of a snowy Pennsylvania-based family whose bad behavior has left him in jail for three years while Maguire plays the military man older brother done good with Portman as his wife and the mother of their two daughters.

Jim Sheridan’s long-completed, practically dormant (if you weren’t privy to the backstory) drama, “Brothers,” starring Tobey MaGuire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman will finally see a release date during Oscar-bait season on December 4. Previously scheduled for an August release, this probably indicates some strong level of confidence on the studio’s part which is Relativity Media/Lionsgate.

David Benioff, a solid scribe known for penning “The 25th Hour” and “The Kite Runner,” but perhaps having lost cred for writing “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” also wrote this one.

Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” was on our 60 Most Anticipated 2009 list, but the film seems to have almost vanished or at least been delayed and delayed.

A remake of the 2004 Danish film from director Susanna Bier (“Things We Lost In The Fire”), the film centers on a soldier declared deceased after being shot down in Afghanistan, who has actually survived but returns home only to suffer from battle fatigue and the realization that his wayward brother has moved in with the family.

Let’s Get Musical: Jim Carrey And Jake Gyllenhaal Sing ‘Damn Yankees’

We told ourselves we’re going to stop re-reporting every damn trade story under the sun because half of them just don’t interest us. We’ve gotten into the bad habit — as have others — of just regurgitating whatever Variety and THR report and again, most of the projects we couldn’t care less for, but it was just too hard to resist the urge to make this graphic.

So the gist is Jake Gyllenhaal and Jim Carrey are teaming-up for a contemporary film realization of the musical “Damn Yankees.”

Meh, we suppose it’s “movies and music” and while we do like some film musicals and many of them are very underrated or just dismissed by the ignorant, but these two actors are basically Hollywood lead.
