Television has provided a rare constant in a tumultuous 2020. While the film industry was sidelined as theaters closed and studio films pushed out their release dates, the television release schedule remained largely the same. This has meant that already there have been plenty of shows that, by years end time, would make a worthwhile, diverse and eclectic list.

It will be interesting to see how the back half of the year goes with television series that had to cut short their film schedule but, for now, things seem to be going along well with plenty of new series premiering in July.

Peacock is nearly upon us. NBCUniversal’s long-awaited first march into the Streaming Wars launches on July 15 and with it, the hopes and dreams of one of Hollywood’s biggest studios as it enters the wild wild west of the digital frontier. And much like Disney+, Apple TV+, and HBO Max, Peacock is launching with a wide array of original content, and the platform has decided to debut a number of new trailers to help build the hype.

While the name of the service isn’t the greatest (will anyone be used to saying they’re going to “Peacock and chill?”), NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Peacock, is coming soon. And thus, it’s time to talk about the slate of original content that will arrive alongside the July launch.

The first batch of Peacock Originals (still not a good name) includes four scripted programs aimed at adults, two comedies and two dramas.

Dystopian fiction is always a great inspiration for quality film and TV projects. There’s something about a world that is so unlike our own, and possibly frightening, that makes people eager to learn more. So, it makes sense that Peacock is hoping that Aldous Huxley’s classic novel, “Brave New World,” can be turned into one of the streaming platform’s first major series.
