Christian Papierniak’s “Izzy Gets the Fuck Across Town,” is a periodically inspired film with a wonderful central performance and a stacked supporting cast. It suffers, at times, from the overconfidence of a bold first-time filmmaker, but Papierniak’s risk-taking instincts pay off more often than not. The film, which is as aggressively episodic as “Pulp Fiction,” is too derivative of Tarantino and his ilk to successfully establish Papierniak’s own directorial voice, but the filmmaker does a more-than-serviceable job while playing in that sandbox.

And yes, while there are some amusing moments courtesy of comedians like Mike Epps and Charlie Murphy (who was so good on “Chappelle’s Show,” he may never get out from under that shadow), laughs are more like mild guffaws and chuckles then any deep-seated gutbusters and most of it it is far too broad for true enjoyment (luckily, it’s not very offensive).

He’s the genuine African-American in the picture who keeps taking umbrage with Robert Downey Jr.’s minstrelsy performance as a Australian actor who undergoes a medical procedure to dye his skin black so he can convincingly play a black man.

Well, evidently Jackson is also some kind of budding musician and comedian as he has a filthy, R&B/hip-hop jam called, “I Love The Pussy,” on the “Tropic Thunder” soundtrack (due August 5) and we’ve got an exclusive first listen of the track.

Due August 5 via Lakeshore records, the soundtrack features war-centric Vietnam-friendly cuts by well, Edwin Starr, Steppenwolf, Ten Years After, CCR, The Temptations and New York rock act the Mooney Suzuki who make a cameo in the film as a house band that cover a few counter culture classics (Rare Earth’s “I Just Want To Celebrate” and apparently Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” in the film, but not the disc).
