Filmmaker Gareth Edwards is coming off his epic sci-fi original film, “The Creator,” a film that saved millions of dollars in VFX by essentially doing it all after the fact. Meaning instead of setting up expensive green screens, blue screens, and mo-cap suits to capture the spots where VFX would typically be inserted, Edwards and his team just shot the movie generally as one would in the wild and then basically Photoshopped on all the VFX afterward (that’s not the most technical version, but probably the most accurate the audiences will understand; read our ‘Creator’ review here).

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the tech giants are courting longtime rights holder MGM for the rights to Bond, in an effort to anchor their respective ventures into content creation in one of the most enduring and beloved franchises in cinema history.

Upon signing their name on the dotted line, interested parties will get a look at MGM’s books via a “virtual room” that will be set up by the banking firm online.

So what’s at stake? A hell of a lot. While bits and pieces of MGM have been sold off over the years (the most notable is Time Warner’s purchase of the pre-1985 catalog via their acquisition of Turner Broadcasting in 1996) they still have a lot of valuable properties in their stable.
