Be prepared for a true movie treasure chest hitting DVD this week. The fine folks at Kino have released a boxed set of the work of F.W. Murnau, including “Nosferatu,” “Faust,” “The Last Laugh,” “Tartuffe,” “The Haunted Castle” and “The Finances Of The Grand Duke.” Within Murnau’s work, you’ll find the early traces of the modern cinematic vocabulary, as its almost a joke how far he was above most contemporaries- and if you’re a nerd who isn’t really intrigued with movie history, perhaps you’ll take a peek based on the legend that “The Last Laugh” strongly inspired the look of the Joker in the early “Batman” comic books.

‘Wall-E’ Snubbed At The Annie Animation Awards

We now know why the abbreviation “WTF” was created! To explain how “Kung Fu Panda” swept the 36th annual Annie Awards (the Oscars for Animation basically), winning 15 categories and leaving its competitors, “Bolt,” and more importantly, “Wall-E,” empty-handed.

We would tell you to just ignore this mind-boggling flub, but since the Annie has predicted the winner for Best Animated Film all but ONCE since the category was introduced to the Oscar race, we’re still going to say ignore it anyway.

Who Will Be Nominated For Best Score And Best Original Song At The Oscars

Ok, so now that Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard’s riveting “The Dark Knight” score is officially back in contention again, the game has changed all over again.

Who’s going to score nominations in the two Oscar music categories for Best Score and Best Original Song?

Let’s start with the Best Song category. This year there’s no Eddie Vedder original “Into The Wild” soundtrack, there’s no “Dreamgirls,” or “Enchanted” to eat up all the multiple nominations and no Sondre Lerche songs for “Dan in Real Life” and certainly no indie-hopeful like “Once” and the songs by Glen Hansard and Market Irgolva.

‘Four Christmases’ Tops The Box-Office Again

Like you haven’t heard by now. As we figured, “Four Christmases” topped the box-office again and “Twilight” came in second. ” Despite debuting on 2,500 screens, “Punisher: War Zone” couldn’t even crack the box-office top 5 and had to settle at a #8 position with only $4 million dollars. This is the third time they’ve tried to reboot this Marvel franchise and every single time its been mostly a colossal failure. Clearly someone is doing something wrong.

Jenny Lewis Of Rilo Kiley Wrote An Original Song For ‘Bolt’

Who knew? They did cause they actually paid money to see it. Guess she was on the soundtrack too. We suppose we should have looked that up. Apparently “Bolt” is a fun movie for kids, we suppose we can’t argue with that. It features John Travolta and Miley Cyrus as the main voices and they apparently do a lot of singing of their own in the film.

“I was excited at the prospect of having a subject matter other than myself to write about,” Lewis told Pop & Hiss about writing the song for the film.

Fangirls Flex Box Office Muscle with ‘Twilight’s’ $70.55M Opening Weekend

Anyone who predicted “Twilight” and “Bolt” would be having a showdown this weekend (erm, like The Playlist) sure do have egg on their face right now. Teen girl phenomenon “Twilight” created a huge box office story, raking in $35M on it’s first day and garnering a weekend total of $70.55M which lead it to be one of the biggest opening weekend stories of 2008 and the biggest opening for a female director (Catherine Hardwicke) ever.

Weekend Box Office Options for November 21

After “Quantum of Solace” dominated last weekend, it may well have enough steam to carry this one as well. Unfortunately for 007, though, he’ll be squaring off against a couple of family(ish) pictures that open in time to ride the crest of Thanksgiving movie-going to massive profits. So which one comes out on top?

If so, while you’re rocking out to Motorhead during the film, get their early for “Glago’s Guest” an animated Disney short directed by Chris Williams (co-director of “Bolt,” he wrote the story of “Mulan” too) there was another reason to be there.

Vile Dirtbag Rockers Motörhead Featured In Disney Family Movie ‘Bolt’

The anti-family friendly metal band, Motörhead, are set to have their song “Dog-Face Boy” featured in the upcoming animated Disney movie, “Bolt.” The film follows a superhero dog as he attempts to be reunited with his owner, voiced by Miley Cyrus, or something like that.

“Dog-Face Boy”‘s role in the film is being limited to the music that a degenerate mail room employee is rocking out to while he mistakenly wraps Bolt up in a packed and ships him across the country.

‘Twilight’ Sucking the Blood from the Wounded ‘Potter’ Fans

Due to “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” moving it’s release date from Fall ‘08 to Summer ’09, cause Warner is out of tentpoles for next year, Summit Entertainment, the company behind the tween vampire romance movie, “Twilight” has decided to seize the moment and move the release date of their film from December 12th to November 21st.

Lying through his teeth, Summit’s Rob Friedman explains, “We by no means are trying to fill the shoes of the incredible Potter franchise for 2008, rather we are just looking to bring the fans of Stephenie Meyer’s incredible book series the film as soon possible from a programming perspective.” The movie based on the book of the same name will open in over 3,000 theaters and go head to head with Walt Disney Pictures’ “Bolt,” an animated film voiced by John Travolta and another tween phenomenon, the anti-phenomenal, Miley Cyrus.
