Ridley Scott is, in some circles anyhow, a god. Practically treated as royalty with laudatory genuflection from certain film enthusiasts — generally genre fetishists — he has turned in two unimpeachable cinema touchstones, “Blade Runner” and “Alien,” plus a few other arguable modern semi-classics including “Black Hawk Down” and “Gladiator” (at least in some people’s minds). But his track record overall? Scott’s batting average isn’t exactly amazing across the board, and while he has major peaks, his work can be frustratingly uneven for someone who is clearly and masterfully talented.

Girls N The Hood; Why Did Sienna Miller Really Leave Ridley Scott’s ‘Robin Hood’?

This isn’t brand-new news by any means, but it’s a slow day, and we’re feeling gentlemanly after watching today’s “Robin Hood” featurette, and felt like righting a wrong.

When the Russell Crowe/Ridley Scott project, then called “Nottingham,” was delayed at the start of 2009, leading to Sienna Miller leaving the project, some fairly scurrilous gossip started making the rounds.

At the time, the New York Post, who first reported Miller’s departure, claimed that Crowe was being a diva on the project, failing to lose the weight he put on for “Body of Lies” (actually, the site claimed it was for “Body of Evidence,” but we don’t remember Crowe being in that, and it was 15 years ago…) insisting on replacing Miller with “an older, plumper actress” so he wouldn’t look ridiculous in their love scenes.

In 2006, Crowe completed nine days of filming in New York on a psychological thriller called “Tenderness.” Since then, the film has remained absent from all Lionsgate release schedules, and three years later, there is no release date in sight.

“Beverly Hills Chihuahua” won the box-office derby again this weekend, besting Ridley Scott’s “Body Of Lies,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. Ok, Scott’s movies wasn’t the best in the world, but what is wrong with you people! In another show of lowest-common denominator retardedness, the base-numbered “Quarantine” took the number 3 spot

Does this scare you? It terrifies us frankly. If the country is willing to vote for this kind of unimaginative tripe imagine what kind of President they’re willing to put into office.

Weekend Box-Office: ‘Happy Go-Lucky’, ‘Rock N’Rolla’, Other Stuff…

The weekend, weekend, weekend. We won’t be seeing jack probably cause we’re still trying to keep up with the last bits of the very-excellent New York Film Festival (NY’ers should note the last screening of “The Wrestler” is this weekend), but there’s some decent stuff opening up.

Number 1 on our list of things you should see this weekend is Mike Leigh’s “Happy Go-Lucky.” The vibrant film is superficially chipper and has a dark and troubled meaty center via an astounding performance by Eddie Marsan who’s downright brilliant.

‘Body Of Lies’ Is No Oscar Contender, But Russell Crowe Shines In Subversive Anti Leading-Man Role

A surprisingly engaging thriller, Ridley Scott’s “Body Of Lies,”was far more compelling film than we expected and certainly about a million times better than the film’s terrible poster which does a real disservice to the movies quality which is pretty top-notch, if yes, a little been-there-done that.

A well-crafted cat and mouse game of intrigue, while the film doesn’t say anything tremendously deep about terrorism, international politics or Middle Eastern affairs, it doesn’t really attempt to and sticks closely to trying to entertain and stir which it exceeds at.

New Mike Patton & Serj Tankian Song In ‘Body Of Lies’

Fuck, Guns N’ Roses. Yeah, they have a new song called “If The World,” from the overly-long gestating Chinese Democracy featured in Ridley Scott’s “Body Of Lies.” But it’s the track “Bird’s Eye” written by ‘Lies’ score composer Marc Streitenfeld, ex-Faith No More frontman Mike Patton, Bay Area musician Goh Nakamura and System of a Down’s Serj Tankian that’s the real track in the credits worth sticking around for.

First off, holy hell is that GNR track terrible, pure ear bile.

Ridley Scott has been blabbering about his Robin Hood adaptation for some time now, and even a few casting choices had been made. But last we heard the project had been indefinitely postponed, and no actor had been cast in the role of Robin Hood.

But now MTV.com is reporting that they overcame the whole no-actor for Robin Hood problem by casting Russell Crowe as both the sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood. My god, we hope this is some sort of sick practical joke.

Oscar-Bait Watch Trailer Season Begins: ‘Body Of Lies’

Leo! Scott! Russell! That’s got premeditated Oscar event written all over it, no? The international trailer for director Ridley Scott’s “Body of Lies” is out. He’s been kind of irking us these days making the same, near-3-hour epic Oscar-bait drama with A-list stars (Denzel, Crowe) over and over again (“American Gangster” was pretty disappointing and more of the same). The synop and trailer frankly, look like more of the same big, humorless dramas that appeal to old Academy voters (though not lately) and geek bloggers who kid themselves into thinking this is as good as drama gets.
