Billie Holiday is one of the most iconic and influential singers of all time. However, she was also one of the most tragic, as her life was cut short due to years of being addicted to hard drugs. But as seen in the upcoming documentary, “Billie,” Holiday’s music and legacy remain intact in the eyes of some of the greatest musicians of all time.

Biopic Of Legendary Music Scout John Hammond In The Works

These days, with the proliferation of music blogs and sites like Last.fm, everyone’s an A&R man. Almost no one in the history of the music industry, however, has the track record of producer and scout John H. Hammond, the focus of Dustin Prial’s book “The Producer: John Hammond and the Soul of American Music,” which producer Jerry Weintraub (“Ocean’s Eleven”) has just acquired the rights to, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Hammond was born into a wealthy family in New York in 1910, and quickly developed an interest in music, particularly that which he heard sung by his servants.

‘Public Enemies’ Soundtrack Hits June 30

The bluesy, depression-era inflected soundtrack for Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies,” which features tracks by Otis Taylor, Willie Johnson, Billie Holiday and a score by Eliot Goldenthal (“Heat,” “Drugstore Cowboy” and an Academy Award win for the excellent “Frida” score) is due June 30 via Decca Records.

The soundtrack also features tracks by Diana Krall (a new version of the classic jazz standard, “Bye Bye Blackbird“), The Bruce Fowler Big Band and presumably what is a spirituals hymnal by Indian Bottom Association, Old Regular Baptists.
