Deadline reports the casting along with a supporting ensemble that consists of Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Bowen Yang (“Saturday Night Live”), Xochitl Gomez (“Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness”), Matt Berry (“What We Do in The Shadows”), and Paula Pell (“Girls5eva”).

The cable king is losing two of its all-time biggest critical darlings this year as the final season of “Barry” premieres on April 16th with two episodes before its final run of six. Like “Succession,” this is a show that’s relishes taking thematic and tonal risks, and it similarly pushes its characters to a breaking point in this final season, leaving few doors open for a return.

HBO’s been pulling a lot of shockers lately. Or at least, the showrunners of series’ on HBO have. First, out of nowhere, HBO’s hit drama series, “Succession” announces very last minute that season four is its last—surprise!— and another shocker just a few weeks later was that Bill Hader’s comedic assassin thriller, “Barry” was calling it quits. Hader had long said that season four was written during the pandemic and then would be tweaked, but it was long ahead of schedule, and he suggested it would at least hit a fifth season.

The race for Best Picture took an interesting turn tonight as Sam Mendes took the top DGA Award prize for Best Director of a Feature Film for “1917.” The Universal Release has now won both the PGA Award and the DGA Awards top honor. The third major guild honor, the Best Ensemble Award at the SAG Awards, went to “Parasite.” The last time a film won both the PGA and the DGA and didn’t win Best Picture was when “Moonlight” triumphed over “La La Land” 2017.

There’s a prominent through-line in “It: Chapter Two” about great storytellers who can’t quite stick the landing – a challenge director Andy Muschietti faced with this project, no doubt. The theme is, obviously, a meta piece of commentary alluding to the issue many had with Stephen King’s bizarre, lengthy, nightmare-inducing novel. The macroverse, Pennywise’s origins, ancient rituals, a massive turtle vomiting out the mainstream universe – there is a lot of excesses that Muschietti could have become bogged down by if the filmmaker slavishly adhered to the source material’s 1,138 pages.

Stephen King must be pleased with the number of prominent adaptations of his work coming in the next few years; after the success of films and TV shows like “Gerald’s Game,” and “Castle Rock,” producers have turned to King’s back catalog for properties to remake or bring to the screen for the first time, including the Jason Clarke-led “Pet Sematary” remake, a miniseries of King’s magnum opus “The Stand,” and “The Shining” sequel “Doctor Sleep,” which wrapped production late last year.
