Just when you thought it was safe, they suck you back in. Yes, on April 14, 2024, the final guild award ceremony was held for programs, films, and content released in 2023. Delayed because of the WGA and SAG strikes, the 2024 WGA Awards were held in concurrent ceremonies in both Los Angeles and New York. Do you remember your frame of mind three months ago? How about five months ago? Well, imagine trying to remember the scuttlebutt and vibes when Television Academy members voted for the 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards last…August. Of course, the 75th Anniversary ceremony was supposed to be held on September 19th, but Hollywood had more important things going on with the WGA and SAG strikes. The Television Academy and their broadcast partner, FOX, decided to reschedule for January and, well, frankly we wish we’d taken the time to sit down and formulate these predictions four months ago.

Like trailers, movie posters are marketing materials to put butts in seats for movies and one could argue—with the fragmenting nature of streaming and the downtrends of movie theatergoing—that movie posters aren’t as important as they once were to pop culture and movie-going culture. That said, we still love ‘em, especially the artful, more visually dynamic ones that aren’t afraid to do more than put a bunch of floating heads on a poster to sell the cast of a movie.

On a wing and a prayer, The Gotham Awards took a chance the SAG-AFTRA Strike would end by the time the November 27th ceremony was scheduled. Their faith paid off. The Gothams became the major kickoff to the 2024 Oscar season as a slew of famous actors, writers, and directors made their way downtown to the annual East Coast indie film soiree.

Last month, Steven Yeun joined the ever-growing ensemble cast of the upcoming Marvel film “Thunderbolts.” Now the creator of Yeun’s latest buzzy project, Netflix‘s “Beef,” out April 6, joins the MCU, too. Variety reports that “Beef” creator Lee Sung Jin joins “Thunderbirds” as a writer. It’s Lee’s first writing credit on a feature film after working on other TV series like “Tuca & Bertie,” “Dave,” and “Silicon Valley.”

Now, it would appear 2022 might actually be even bigger for the actor. And part of that reason is that he’s likely going to reteam with his “Minari” filmmaker, Lee Isaac Chung, on one of the most anticipated series in development, “Beef.”
