When it was announced that Peacock was rebooting “Battlestar Galactica,” fans were a bit apprehensive. Sure, the creator of “Mr. Robot,” Sam Esmail, is producing the show, which is a good thing. But the last time the show was rebooted, in the early ‘00s, courtesy of Ronald D. Moore, the show reached new heights with critical acclaim and one of the smartest sci-fi stories to grace TV in decades.

‘Battlestar Galactica’: Simon Kinberg Will Write & Produce A New Film For Universal

After becoming a cult classic and then an acclaimed rebooted series on Syfy, it was almost inevitable that “Battlestar Galactica” would eventually end up on the big screen. And though Peacock is developing a new TV series, it appears that Universal is ready to also work on a new film based on the sci-fi series.

According to THR, Universal has signed on Simon Kinberg to write and produce a brand-new take on “Battlestar Galactica” for the big screen.

‘Battlestar Galactica’: ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Writer Set To Script & Showrun The Revival Series Produced By Sam Esmail

The highly-anticipated reboot/revival of “Battlestar Galactica” is one step closer to invading your streaming screens. Produced by Sam Esmail, the new ‘BSG’ has found its leader—Michael Lesslie.

According to Deadline, Lesslie has been recruited to be the lead writer and showrunner for the new “Battlestar Galactica” series that is in development over at Peacock (NBCUniveral’s new streaming service that is expected to launch this summer).

Space is the place, or it will be soon for Hollywood executives. The $2 billion success of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” proves there’s a four quadrant audience ready to eat up sci-fi tales. It might explain why 20th Century Fox and James Cameron are chasing four more “Avatar” movies, or why “Star Trek” has both a movie sequel and TV series on the horizon, so it’s not a big surprise that Universal is ramping up their long developing big screen adaptation of “Battlestar Galactica.”

A couple years back, “Transcendence” writer Jack Paglen was tapped to pen the screenplay, but the studio has since switched gears a bit.

NYCC ’10 ‘The Thing’ Remake; Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Calls It An “Orgy Of Blood”

“An orgy of blood” was how “The Thing” was described at NY Comic Con by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, one of the stars of the upcoming prequel. The cast, producers and director unspooled a brief teaser for the film for the Comic Con crowd, but it offered very little hint as to what’s going on in the film. It does take place at the Norwegian base seen in John Carpenter’s horror classic, long after inhabitants fell prey to an unseen creature, and cast and crew confirmed it does lead into the Carpenter film.

Last week everyone was all abuzz about an LA Times interview with Bryan Singer. The director and “X-Men” series producer Lauren Shuler Donner not only spoke about Singer’s return to the series for “X-Men: First Class” — a high school like version of the original X-Men starring the original five characters: Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Jean Grey and Angel — but there was also discussions about a possible fourth “X-Men” movie (and speculation/wishful thinking that the filmmaker could even direct “Wolverine 2”).

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Bryan Singer spilled more details about his top-secret “X-Men: First Class” project. His long-awaited return to Fox and the X-Men franchise is still shrouded in some layers of secrecy (until it turns out so bad that Fox leaks it months before its release to cover their asses! D’OH!), but he was able to clarify some speculation regarding the project, especially in the wake of fellow X-projects like “Wolverine 2” (bad), “Deadpool” (worse) and “X-Men Origins: Magneto” (yeah, what?).

Bryan Singer Adds ‘Jack the Giant Killer’ to Already Full Plate

Bryan Singer has attached himself to direct yet another new project, which was announced today via THR’s Heatvision blog- “Jack the Giant Killer,” a fantasy adventure produced by New Line and Legendary Pictures. We speculated about this project a month ago, when Singer added the “Excalibur” remake to his plate. The script is by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Race to Witch Mountain), and Darren Lemke (some movie called Lost with Dean Cain, the upcoming Shrek 3D retread) and centers around a war between giants and humans set off by the kidnapping of a princess, and the young farmer who sets off to the giant kingdom on a rescue mission.

Bryan Singer Adds ‘Excalibur’ Remake To Busy Dance Card- Also Possibly Returning To ‘X-Men’?

Well, now that the “Avatar” trailer has been revealed to suck, Hollywood’s genre filmmakers can get back to work without fear of “awe” and “spectacle” being monopolized by James Cameron. A week after being announced as onboard a “Battlestar Galactica” redo over at Universal, Variety reports that Bryan Singer has signed on to produce and develop a remake of John Boorman’s “Excalibur.” The original was a badass swords and sorcery epic revolving around the retelling of the King Arthur myth, embracing the magic and outlandishness of the original legends.

Bryan Singer is rumored to be in the process of bringing “Battlestar Galatica” to the silver screen for Universal. Singer was attached to a reboot early this decade before September 11 stunted his project’s progress. Since then Ron Moore has developed a critically acclaimed television remake. Wonder what the geeks will think of Singer’s possible reboot which will reportedly draw inspiration from the original series. As for us? Please don’t let this be true, and Singer, please move onto something much more original than a TV show remake, thanks.
