Jamie Dornan had a burgeoning career before he earned the role of Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” but the international blockbuster predictably turned him into something pretty close to a movie star (or what counts for a movie star these days). Dornan likely had a number of intriguing offers once he landed the plumb ‘Fifty’ gig, but for his follow up film he chose Sean Ellis’ “Anthropoid,” a period thriller based on true events that took place in Nazi occupied Prague at the height of WWII.

It’s somewhat remarkable that 70 years after the Nazi surrender there are still compelling stories to tell set during World War II.  The fact the horrific conflict has become a contemporary equivalent of the Greek myths in today’s narrative culture is a subject for another day, but it is somewhat shocking that the true events at the heart of Sean Ellis’ “Anthropoid,” is the first attempt to tell the defining story of the Czech resistance in over four decades.
