It’s hard to imagine a time when director Quentin Tarantino wasn’t putting together favorite lists or telling folks why he loves certain films in various interviews, some well-known and others being obscure gems. The cinephile recently put that love of filmmaking to paper with a new nonfiction novel “Cinema Speculation” that focuses on the films of the 1970s that Tarantino watched as a young moviegoer and had a lasting impact as he eventually tried his own hand at creating his own movies.

This week, Woody Allen‘s 2016 title (for as we all know, there’s one each year), “Cafe Society,” starring Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Steve Carell, Corey Stoll, Blake Lively and Anna Camp, opens after a warm reception as the opening film at the most recent Cannes Film Festival. At the time, Allen seemed to be suing because the image was unlicensed and the company had no rights to use it.

Problem is AA, has not licenced the image and is advertising on billboards and the Internet without his consent.

According to the lawsuit, “Allen does not engage in the commercial endorsement of products or services in the United States.”

Calls to American Apparel were not returned, but it’s said that ladies were taken off laps for a minute to asses the damage.
