We could write something really meaningful about documentaries and how they impacted the decade, changed our lives, made us cry, made us angry, gave us a call to action, or shined a light on something we otherwise might not know about. We could talk about the portraits of people we adored, people we lost, or chronicles of injustice or venality or obscure spotlights on little-known subjects. Oscar’s big nomination day is still over a month away, but music got its moment in the spotlight as The Recording Academy revealed the nominees for the 59th Grammy Awards this morning and, as expected, Queen Bee ruled the roost.

Beyonce took nine nominations including Record of the Year (“Formation”), Album of the Year (“Lemonade”) and Song of the Year (“Formation”). Drake, Rihanna and Chance the Rapper all earned seven while Adele took five (Xavier Dolan‘s video for “Hello” was snubbed).

We’re just about midway through 2015, and that means taking stock of the cinematic year so far. In terms of feature films, it’s been a stellar year, with everything from “Inside Out” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” to “The Duke Of Burgundy” and “L’il Quinquin” making it one of the strongest first six months of a moviegoing calendar that we can remember (read our 20 Best Films Of The Year So Far feature), with a plethora of equally excellent movies having cropped up at festivals (read our 20 Best Film Festival Debuts Of The Year So Far feature too).
