It was kind of laughable that Quentin Tarantino was on “American Idol,” as a mentor last night and from Vulture’s report it seemed wholly unnecessary, however, there was one happy bi-product of the show: more footage and an extended trailer from, his upcoming WWII film, “Inglourious Basterds.” The new sneak peek also gives us a first look at Mike Myers as the British character Gen. Ed Fenech.

But is this more Tarantino B-movie adoration or his next masterpiece?

Quentin Tarantino’s adoring commitment to trash extends beyond bad, B-movie grindhouse crap, it even goes so far into the realm of bad television (he’s evinced his love for bad Movies of the Week many times). But even beyond bad television, it extends to bad reality TV and none other than the bane of pop cultural existence “American Idol.”

The filmmaker has already appeared on ‘Idol’ once (back in 2007 – clip below, god dude was so sadly in his element) and he’s scheduled to take a break from editing his upcoming WWII epic, “Inglourious Basterds” to make another appearance on the musical amateur karaoke show this week (tomorrow to be exact according to Hitflix).

Our hope of never having to blog about anything American Idol related is now officially gone.

Lowest-common denominator box-office holiday tripe “National Treasure: Book Of Secrets” was rendered slightly-less odious recently when a song composed for the film by Chris Daughtry was axed at the last minute according to Variety.

The virile, former-American Idol contestant had written the original song, “Feels Like Tonight” specifically for the film and the track was meant to be placed in the Nicolas Cage sequel’s closing credits.
