The network has just announced the premiere dates for its most anticipated titles of the year, ranging from the return of Taika Waititi’s mockumentary series “What We Do in the Shadows” and the next chapter in Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, “Impeachment: American Crime Story”.

And now, with the upcoming “American Horror Story: 1984,” the Ryan Murphy anthology turns its sights on the classic slasher horror genre.

A couple of thoughts hit me while watching the first teaser trailer for “American Horror Story: 1984.” First, the thought of “Can we please be done with ‘80s nostalgia?” This was followed by “Oh cool, I didn’t realize there was more ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ coming this fall!” Sadly, neither of those thoughts had anything to do with fear or excitement, which I think is what FX is trying to make you feel.

In something of a surprise, the Television Academy announced that three shows which had previously qualified for the Outstanding Limited Series or Movie categories will not for the 2019 Emmy season.  FX’s “American Horror Story: Apocalypse,” USA’s “The Sinner” and Netflix’s “American Vandal” will now be categorized in the Drama Series (“AHS,” “The Sinner”) and Comedy Series (“Vandal”) categories.

In a statement, the Television Academy noted each series continued story threads and characters from a previous season.

As has been the case with all of the previous seasons of Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology series “American Horror Story,” little has been released in terms of actual information regarding what’s to come. There have been plenty of cryptic teasers, hints at character romances, and, frankly, one of the most off-putting television posters I’ve seen in a long while.

What we do know is that “American Horror Story: Cult” will be set in Michigan and that the Trump-Clinton election will be used as a jumping off point for some of the horror that takes place, giving a voice to those who don’t have one “in our culture” as Murphy noted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy has teased what’s coming in the seventh season of the highly anticipated FX anthology series. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more horrifying, the mastermind behind the series revealed that the upcoming season will be based on the 2016 election.

“The season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through, so I think that’s going to be interesting for a lot of people,” Murphy said on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” (via EW) When Cohen asked if there will be a Trump in it, Murphy answered with an evasive “maybe.”

Much like season six, the upcoming installment in the horror series has been shrouded in mystery.
