And though there are some definite problematic issues with Tony Kaye’s late-‘90s drama, the message is all too timely, even more than two decades after its release. So now would seem like the perfect time for a follow-up film, and it appears that’s exactly what Kaye is working on.

As a young man, he evoked the same blend of hardness and sensitivity previously associated with great thespians of decades past (Robert Deniro and Dustin Hoffman both come to mind). In films like “American History X” and “Fight Club,” it seemed like Norton was daring to redefine screen acting as we knew it – and it didn’t hurt that he was willing to work with risky, button-pushing directors like David Fincher and Spike Lee, both of whom coaxed him towards giving two of his finest performances to date.

In an interview with the L.A. Times‘ Patrick Goldstein, notoriously overly-eccentric British filmmaker Tony Kaye revealed that when he is not randomly distributing his paintings around L.A — which, he’s uhhh, currently doing now — he is working with Mickey Rourke on the actor’s self-penned drama “Wild Horses.”

The “American History X” director has been out of the mainstream film game since the he famously feuded with Edward Norton on the set and eventually attempted to have his name removed from the credits and replaced with the pseudonym “Humpty Dumpty” (suffice to say that didn’t go over well in Hollywood).

Want to recall and recap of how much of a difficult prick actor Edward Norton can be? The L.A. Times has a brilliant overview of all the film’s he’s caused a fuss on including lesser known dust-ups like, “Death to Smoochy” (battling with wardrobe), “Frida” (rewriting the script and whining about not getting credit) and “Red Dragon” (fighting and pushing around director Brett Ratner in hopes of controlling the film).

As for “American History X” director Tony Kaye?
