However, you can’t imagine that it hurts to have a knowledge of some of the best directors around when trying to craft your own art. And in the case of Barry Jenkins, an Oscar-winning filmmaker in his own right, he still looks to others for inspiration when crafting projects, especially with his Amazon series, “The Underground Railroad.”

Speaking to Sight & Sound, Barry Jenkins gave a list of filmmakers that inspired him during very specific moments in his 10-episode Amazon series, “The Underground Railroad.” In the piece, the author of the novel that inspired the series, Colson Whitehead, said that he was sold on Jenkins as the right guy to adapt the story when the filmmaker mentioned references like Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood” and “The Master.”

As for Jenkins, he went deeper with some of his specific influences for the series.

It’s not that remakes are always destined to be bad. Instead, it’s that the films that have tried to replicate the style and effectiveness of Hitchcock have failed miserably, with the most blatant example being the shot-for-shot remake of “Psycho.” With that being said, filmmaker Ben Wheatly wants everyone to understand that his upcoming version of “Rebecca” is not a remake of Hitchcock’s Oscar-winning film of the same name.

Leading the way in January is actress, writer, and director Elaine May, who joins the esteemed Criterion Collection with her 1976 film “Mikey and Nicky.” The crime film stars Peter Falk and John Cassavetes as two former friends and mobsters that find their friendship brought back into light when one of them is scared for his life.

Since it’s now pretty much legal to take an Alfred Hitchcock movie, cast it with teens, make it dumber and call it original, it looks like more people are going to follow D.J. Caruso’s lead with “Disturbia.” So it can’t be too much of a surprise that “Strangers On A Train” is going to get a makeover.

The British production by Slingshot Productions and BBC Films (they should be ashamed) will utilize a script by Joshua St.

In a lawsuit that we forgot was happening, a judge has ruled that “Disturbia,” the film that made Shia LaBeouf a star, does not infringe on the copyright of “Rear Window.”

The suit was brought to court by the very un-fun sounding people The Sheldon Abend Revocable Trust who argued that D.J. Caruso’s film bore more than a striking resemblance to the plot of the Cornell Woolrich short story that inspired Alfred Hitchock’s classic film.

Venerable British film institution, the, er, British Film Institute (BFI), is marking 75 years of the National Film Archive, by compiling a list of the 75 ‘lost’ films they would most like to find. The full list is exhaustive in its detail, explaining what makes these titles important, and including all currently-known data about the films: who they featured, plot synopses, stills, when they were made/last seen, and contemporary reviews and comment.

The most wanted Most Wanted is a film by Alfred Hitchcock (seen pointing in set photo – even he was young once), his second directorial effort, in fact, a silent movie from 1926 called “The Mountain Eagle” — which, notwithstanding Hitch’s own comment in conversation with Francois Truffaut that it’s “a very bad movie” — is still a rather mouthwatering prospect for film historians and students alike.

The central ‘plot,’ if you want to call it that, revolves around Alfred Hitchcock encountering his double in his studio.

Speaking backstage at the People’s Choice Awards, the actor revealed that, “Wolverine’s going to be back. He’s going to Japan. We shoot that probably in a year, year-and-a-half, something like that.” So there you have it. We’re going to guess with Hollywood currently losing their mind over “Avatar” this one will be in 3D. Christopher McQuarrie will be writing the script, as the production searches for a director.

If you’re not a Bond person, fear not, Criterion comes to the rescue- Francois Truffaut’s faultless “The 400 Blows” and “The Last Metro” also street, a major treat for any film lover, while Alfred Hitchcock’s “To Catch A Thief” gets a non-Criterion but still souped-up Centennial Collection release.

After a few dry weeks, the DVD shelves should have far more options for the discerning viewer this week. In addition to the sterling collection of Criterions hitting shelves as part of the Arthouse Collections II we’ve talked about here that include the likes of “Ikiru” and “The 400 Blows,” older Alfred Hitchcock films will hit the format as well in “The Lodger,” “The Paradine Case” and “Sabotage.” The real find must be Roy Andersson’s “You, The Living.” The Swedish filmmaker made his name with the surrealist masterpiece “Songs From The Second Floor” and a release for “Living” has been long anticipated by cinephiles, even if it is Region 2.

Everyone wants to play Salvador Dali all of a sudden, the famous wacky Spanish surrealist painter that appealed to teenagers who first discovered pot and art in high school at the same time.

Robert Pattinson will threaten his pin-up hunk “Twilight” status by playing the young, pre-moustachioed artiste in “Little Ashes” and now Spaniard Antonio Banderas is in final negotiations to play the painter in a Simon West-directed indie biopic simply titled, “Dali,” according to Variety.

So yeah, we’re on an homage kick, sue us. The Vanity Fair Alfred Hitchcock photo portfolio salute reminds us of one of our favorite scenes in a little-seen film by one of our favorite and underrated directors Emir Kusturica. The kooky Serbian director is perhaps most well-known internationally for his very excellent epic Yugoslavia historical satire, “Underground” which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1995. In the early ’90s, Kusturica’s madcap and often wildly silly, but intensely enjoyable sensibilties was drawn in by Hollywood for his only U.S.

As you may have heard, Vanity Fair’s upcoming Movie/Oscar issue will contain a homagistic photo portfolio to the films of Alfred Hitchock. Our favorites – a combination of the best execution and our fave Hitch films are below. They include Marion Collitard (“La Vie En Rose”) portraying Janet Leigh’s famous shower scene in “Psycho,” Charlize Theron about to get strangled in “Dial M For Murder,” James McAvoy and Emile Hirsch as the respective psychotic con man and sap of “Strangers On a Train,” and Seth Rogen as a stand-in for Carey Grant during an iconic moment of “North By Northwest.”

We included the original photo context within VF’s photos just cause (except for the Cotillard one cause it speaks for itself and you never want to cover up her body).

Ever the loving cineologist and film preservationist, this past fall, Marty Scorsese shot “The Key To Reserva,” a “lost” Alfred Hitchcock script in secret. YouTube calls it, “a briliant advertisement and a complex homage to Alfred Hitchcock and [legendary composer] Bernard Hermmann,” and this is all true, but the point?

Well for one it’s a short disguised as an ad for the Spanish Freixenet sparkling wine, which makes it pretty lame (and perhaps has Hitchcock rolling in his grave), but one assumes the funding for the project came from the wine company.

Anthony Hopkins is going to play Alfred Hitchcock for “Running with Scissors” director Ryan Murphy’s “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” – a drama about the making of Hitchcock’s “Psycho,” and particularly the obstacles the droll British suspense pioneer met when trying to make the film. But man, Hopkins’ Hitchcock impression rules.
