From tackling the world of “Alien” in “Memory: The Origins of Alien” and “Psycho” in “78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene,” it’s clear Phillippe is fascinated by the art of filmmaking and loves putting his analytical mind to use in breaking it down.

The new documentary “Lynch / Oz” applies this lens as a way of seeing the works of David Lynch with greater clarity and understanding, and in doing so, draws on the seemingly infinite number of angles from which the foundational fantasy can be analyzed.

Philippe has made quite the name for himself by developing his own brand of “cinema essay” by taking viewers deep into their favorite films in his exploration of the art of filmmaking.

Sure, you can weed through the heaps of uninteresting stuff on Netflix for $15 per month (or whatever the price is now, as it keeps increasing) or you can enjoy Shudder, which has some great horror, thriller, and auteur classics, as well as pretty awesome Originals, all for $6 per month.

Whenever you dissect a cultural phenomenon as large as “Star Wars” you know that you’re going to be assaulted with opinions. Such has been the case following the release of the first trailer for “The People vs. George Lucas,” a documentary combining professional and fan footage in an attempt to impartially study the fascinating journey of George Lucas, Star Wars and the fans that have both idolized and demonized the director and saga.

We got the chance to talk in-depth with director Alexendre O.

About a week ago, the trailer for “The People Vs. George Lucas,” hit the web, a documentary that examines the love/hate and mixed feelings fans have for the creator of the “Star Wars” mythos.

Still months away from completion the filmmakers and director Alexandre O. Philippe, released the trailer far in advance, partly to “listen to the fans and get a feel for what people think.” Some of us [ed. me] have come to detest “Star Wars” culture and all it stands for, and we initially groaned at what was yet another SW-related film, but the trailer was admittedly fascinating and suggested it was coming from a far cut above than the regular fanboy doc.
